Why is the Antec 1200 so ***t?

After owning an Antec 902 for a long time I thought I would upgrade to a 1200 and go for a Corsair H100 cooler.

Unpacked the case, fitted the board in, changed the fans at the front to Tri Cool Green fitted PSU, fitted H100.......

BANG. Had to stop there. the 240mm rad doesn't even fit in the slot at the back (2x120mm fan area)

So yeah... now I'm stuck with a H50 and an Antec 1200, which looks silly together. Nobody in the world seems interested in buying it, but when someone eventually does (when I drop the buy it now price down to 1p), I'll be going for the HAF-X.

Urgh.

Maybe a bit of welding is in order?

I've just had a look at it on eBay - seems a shame. Have you thought about mounting it in the front instead?

Hi,

The Antec 1200 is a fine case IF you're just using air cooling...a friend uses one as a server, stacked full of hard drives and - due to the nature of PC Kit musical chairs when you upgrade - a fairly decent CPU (Q9650) and Cross-Fired 4850 GPUs. This system stays cool and quiet with great air-flow.

The Antec 1200 is a rather old design now and things like these closed loop blocks just didn't exist back then. As suggested, likely you can mod the case to your needs...hope it works out for you.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Yeah. It's left a massive sour taste in my mouth because I have to either drill it out (never done anything like that to a case before but not out of my realm of capability obviously)

OR

Accept it will never go for anything close to what I paid for it and put it for auction when the 3 days are up.

Don't understand why it wouldn't fit in the front? I've seen loads of builds that have the H50 in the front in a push/pull setup. That way you can still have your rear exhausts as well.

The point is you shouldn't have to mod a full tower case to get something so simple as a 240 rad in. Though as said, the 1200 if for air cooled servers, just look at the number of HDD bays!

Took the auction down, not one single iota of interest even when I dropped the price right down to half what I paid for it 3 days ago. Oh well, stuck with it now.

Antecs are just like Thermaltakes.

Marketed at people that dont know any better.

For the money you spent you could have had a really nice case, but you bought crap

For the retail price, I have to agree, it is turd. I could of got onboard if a rad fitted without having to get the drill out, but it doesn't even do that. Should of gone for the HAF-X

Woh, woh, woh! Are you blaming Antec for you trying to fit a 2.120 rad at the back when they haven't stated compatibility for that?

I'm not 'blaming' anyone for anything. I was merely making the statement that it is rev.3 of this case, and in my own personal opinion, given the size of the case, the sheer fact that is only just about supports a 120mm radiator is a huge oversight.

Granted, it's a big case, and supports a lot of drives, and is probably more suited towards the server end of the market. Instead of the big boy fan at the top, why not a rad grill. Let users decide what they want to put there...

However, if Antec had given it a few extra inches at the top, it would of natively supported a 240mm radiator at the back, and they could of used that has a massive sales pitch for a rev.3

Now that they are making there own all in one coolers, I sincerely hope one of the bright sparks at Antec R&D comes up with a rad design that fits in the 1200. If they don't get up to speed with what all the case manufacturers are doing, they won't be in business all that much longer.

I have been in contact with the original retailer, and to be fair, after writing them biggest grovelling letter in the history of man, they have agreed to swap it for a Haf-X.

So this story has a happy ending afterall.

Your grovelling powers must be simply awesome. Bettter do a quick spot check to make sure you've still got all your organs.

I don't think it's so much my magical grovelling powers. The lad in customer services did appear to offer a shoulder of sympathy in his reply, and genuinely knew where I was coming from.

Also, I think it's more the fact that in hardware these days the margins are so small and competition is so high, that the only way companies can compete is in customer service. This particular company I deal with I have always found excellent in terms of customer service. Only think I can fault them on (and TTL agreed with me on this in person) is their forums are very 'clicky'.

Still. Mentioning no names.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the HAF, loads of options and CM are right up there with the quality. Its a shame about Antec they've just taken their eye off the ball - something you can't afford to do in this game.
