Why is the Antec 1200 so ***t?

Any tips you can give me? Will I need to invest in extra fans or does it come with them? I'm thinking some red ones will look good, but the last time I bought any red lighting, it was a sharkoon cold cathode that was red on the box but glowed a lightish pink.

Hence hugely sceptical about red stuff now mate.

Antecs are just like Thermaltakes.

Marketed at people that dont know any better.

For the money you spent you could have had a really nice case, but you bought crap

I agree that the 1200 is likely the weakest of the lineup, people expect more from a full-tower these days. Still, the 1200 is a pretty old case now, about time they updated it.

I have a couple of Antec 300 cased PCs, purely using air cooling, and they've proven great for the role they are in - basically older PC parts in server-type roles, plenty of HDD's cooled by air. They've proven easy to build with (hinged, removable doors, hinged removable front fan mounts) and cheap. NOT something that'd ever case one of my gaming rigs, but good for the job they have.

I also have the original Antec 900 case. It was my main PC case at one point and it proved to be a good match for my old overclocked Q6600 gamer on air. Now that same system is crammed full of hard-drives and works well as an always-on server...it's quiet (light whoosh of air moving is all) and stays cool.

I think the lesson here (sorry, not preaching, you've learnt it the hard way) is to do you homework and know what you're getting. My friend has an Antec 1200 case running as an air-cooled server crammed with HDD's and it's fullfilling that role perfectly for him. Appropriate case for the job is key. Also, Antecs used to be pretty cheap hence part of their appeal I guess...

I do have a sneaking suspicion that Tom doesn't like them though...call it a hunch if you will...

OP: Best of luck, hope you find something to meet your needs.

Cheers,

Scoob.

tbh mate, I just 'assumed' that the rad for the H100 would fit in the back of the case, it being a 2 times 120mm exhaust port.

Yes. Lesson learned in this game. Don't assume jack s**t. I used to go with American piece from Chicago, and she said that over there they have a saying.

Never ASSUME anything, because it makes an ASS out of U, and ME.

She was referring to communication between blokes and birds at the time (yanks are big on that) but I guess you could apply it to this too eh.

I would really get a 240 radgrill and a cheap multittol for cuting. Grill cost only 15-20usd.

Cut out holes for audio, usb and ur fan cables while u are at it :-)

How mutch would it cost you to return the chassis to the seller? in Norway we get 4-6 weeks return if not happy guarantee(withdraw). Buyer needs to pay for shiping and the goods must be like you recieved it.

Swapped 1200 for Haf-X. It's like chalk and cheese.

I particularly like the hot swap drive bays and the rubber gromets, which being a long term antec owner I've never used before. Space at the top to mount a huge rad aswell, which means I can go to custom water eventually, or just invest in the H100.

All in all, excellent case. What a relief.
