Why have 2 raptors when you can have 4

I decided a while back to stick to 32m superpi test if I want a long run.

Although I sometimes wonder what would happen if I chose to run CPC benchies with my current rig - mmmmmmmmmmm

u will do well but the dual cpu,z have to much edge on single core cpu,z..

the comp or shud i say test should be kept seperate single core to dual core....

Wow so many replies in so little time.

Was wondering how dazbots managed to run 5 raptors striped. I don't know of any onboard controllers that will run more than 4 drives. Surpose you could run a pci card with 4+ sata shannels but wouldent the pci bus be a bottle neck. Was just wondering.

I know what you mean about the benchmarks. When the A64 came out I was one of the first with a 3400 (754) and a 6800gt. I got a score that would have put me in third in the Custom PC benchmarks. I submitted my score to be told they wern't running it any more. Gutted n the mag has gone downhill from there. Never did well on the cpc benchmarks, prefer my AMDs .

Nice to see all te replies Guys

Hi All Again

Am thinking about getting another two 36gig raptors and running all four on a striped raid arrey. Has anyone else done it and is it worth it. Obveiously its going to give me 140gig of very fast storage but is it a lot faster.

Yogi

Hi yogi your best betfor upgrade is def 2x74g raptors as not only are they faster than 36g they use command queing which makes things much quicker, only hitachi come close so far.hope it helps.

So if I had 10GB of data on my 74GB Raptor, it would find it faster than 10GB of data on my 34GB Raptor?

Surely if that is true, the 74GB must be looking twice as quickly? Or have I just picked up the wrong stick?

In the early days of "Beat the Office," anyone who beat their benchmark computer, won it. They stopped upgrading the computer, and it was overtaken pretty quickly afterwards, then they moved the competition goalposts. The leaderboard is a bigger con, IMO. Some guys posted the same score 17 times, and every time he gets an 0.01 improvement, he posts that as well. There should only be one entry per computer, which can be updated as the computer is tweaked/ upgraded. I take an interest in the BTO comp, I think Im in the top ten for fastest single core air-cooled rigs :) Which as a category, doesnt exist, but I dont care :)

Kenny

Ok mate,

So did you ever win an "Office PC" ?

That does sux though :( its a shame when they don't keep to what they say and change it to suite them. Whats the bet that they didn't realise how many of us there are out there with better pcs than theirs ;)
