I thought I'd start this poll as I notice there are a lot of different people on here :)

Some go for the best of the best, not thinking about money.

Others go for the best 'bang-for-buck' products, looking more for value.

Then there are some who aren't that interested in clocking at all.

lol that me alright. Ive budgeted for each item of my "new" PC, and i keep going under it so I can add another component to my list. Ill post my specs once its all built when I get back.

I go for bang-for-buck aswell :)

Used to be the whole reason behind overclocking until the rich people started spending loads just to get stuff that was 'the best' (for 5minutes) :D

"the best" is just too expensive tbh. No point in paying $800 for a proccy when you can get a $300 one and overclock higher than the $800 one's stock speed.

erm, what about the option of because its a skill

trust me, most people on these boards dont need faster computers, they overclock for fun, to see how fast a chip will go, to see the best configuration to get the most speed...

thats why i do it anyway

I do it for fun aswell, have done since my first 486 overclock. I think that's looking at it from a different perspective tho.

The poll is about the money perspective really.

I'm pretty sure everyone has fun overclocking or tweaking etc, but is there a limit to how much you will spend  or will you spend thousands just to have the best? (prob be the best for hours or days before someone does something better or something better is released)

I have to agree with you there Dave!

Some of the peeps on this forum have PCs that would cost like £5000 when buying from PC world.

Lets just say we have the power! :worship:

QFT! I overclock my PC because it's something to do :p

I`m somewhat of an oc puss tbh. Sure I`ll step some things up a few notches, but nothing like some of the experts on here would do.

I also think oc`ing is an addiction.

I used to be similar, back before I went 939 I'd OC, then go back to stock a day later. Then I'd do it again, then back to stock. I grew a pair on 939 and I've been getting worse and worse lmao. Now I'm starting to vmod (and sometimes kill something), so I'm pretty much @ the point where overclocking doesn't "save" you money but cost you money. It only gets worse from here. :p

Agreed. I've got to the stage now where i've got 'quick-release' bolts holding my motherboard in.."oops another dead DFI..slot in the replacement"

jims house is like a production line....

Jim: Need new DFI! Presses emergency mobo button built into desk

Paige fetches a spare from the "mobo room", passes it to Emma, who passes it to jim. Devon is on hand already releasing dead mobo from case and swapping over parts. Jims stops the clock.....the mobo change times in at 2 minutes 24 seconds, a new best for team XMS!
