Why do bad things happen to good people

When I worked in a poultry factory the fork-lift drivers used to race around like madmen. I'm pretty sure they did more than 10mph inside the factory. I think we used to have one go over every 2 weeks, the floor was wet 24/7. Really frightening if they were carrying something as well. They used to carry 500gal IBC tanks full of poultry, ice and water and palletised boxes of finished product.

The management used to get the engineers to by-pass the limiters and re-enable them if we had an HSE visit. Very naughty:nono:

Yeah, the silliest thing is, the HSE have the authority to walk into anywhere un-announced, but they always make an appointment beforehand.:eh:

there stupid like that,

phone call

HSE: hello this is the HSE and we would like to make an appointment to come see your workforce in action

manager: yeah ok, i have not got any room untill next week

HSE: thats fine

To follow up my post i have been hunting around the internet and found this,

its a hybrid door that allows the driver too see out without there being a window in the way, also they make it so if the truck does fall over then the driver would be nice and safe inside the cab

i will be talking to the H&S managers about this option on monday.

The problem I would have with a door on a lift is that it kills a bit of productivity. I'm used to running about frantically and hopping in and out without any obstructions. If your workplace is safe-happy though, that seems like it would definately help if you dumped it on its side.

Good idea, but one question.

Does it cost any......you know......any errrrrm......*Whispers* "Money"?

*Wibble wibble*

it defo cost money but the H&S budget at work is endless (i think)

Just like the number of redundancies?

If they can find a way to worm out of it they will do.

I've seen it soooo many times before.
