Hiya, i'm a bit stuck on which PSU to get as i don't know much about them TBH.

I'm currently building at the moment and here's what i've got/getting...

Processor - Intel Q6600 2.4ghz

Mobo - Abit Intel P35 Pro

OS - Vista Premium 64bit

Case - Coolermaster 831 stacker

HD - 1 x WD 250gb 7200RPM

1 x WD 36gb OR 76GB Raptor 10000RPM

RAM - OCZ 4GB / 8GB DDR2 800Mhz Gold Gamer eXtreme XTC Edition

GFX - 8800GT 512mb

Video - Auzentech Prelude 7:1

Need to know anything else??? If so let me know...

I was looking at the Corsair HX series, are these any good? IF SO, which one do you recommend? (wattage)

The Antec Quattro is BADDD but i don't think i can afford to pay that much just for the PSU.

For you're rig I'd be looking at a decent quality 500w PSU. Do you have a price limit?

I'm quite liking the Coolermaster Real Power at the moment. Either that or the OCZ *Xstream

Thanks for your reply mate,

I was thinking around 500w was right, but wasn't quite sure. My limit is around £50-100.

I posted a link to the OCZ Xstream up there ^^ Been looking at it myself looks a decent PSU.

Know anything about the Tagan i posted aswell? Saw that on Newegg.

I haven't tested the Tagan yet so I cant really comment. But my list would go something like this:

Coolermaster Real power

Thermaltake Toughpower (yes, they are actually good despite the crap brand)

Corsair HX520

Enermax Infiniti

OCZ GameXStream

All are very good PSU's, and there's a combo of hard-wired and modular in that list so u can choose what suits you best.

If you can stretch a little further, you could buy something like a PCP&C Silencer 750.

Yeah a quality 500w would do it. I got a few extra things plugged into mine (otherwize same as u got), so I went 600w Seasonic M12 - works well.

This might sound Noobish but whats the difference between modular + hard wired psu's?

And Jim, for that price, would you put all 4 of them other psu's before the OCZ Xstream? or were they not in order of choice lol.

What extra things do you have that caused you to get a 600W Rasta? an extra GFX card?

They weren't really in order, but if I was to sort them performance-wise it would be something like this:

Coolermaster

Thermaltake

OCZ / Corsair

Enermax

Sorted after-sales support wise:

OCZ

Enermax

Corsair

Coolermaster

Thermaltake

EDIT: just saw the modular question: Basically modular allows you to only plug int he connectors you need, which is great for keeping your rig tidy. Some people say that the performance of modular PSU's isn't as good as hard-wired, but unless the modular system used on a PSU is real bad, its fine.

Drive front panel for Xfi, hard drives and a bluray. Each I`d put aside 25w, maybe 5/10 for the panel.

O and a slight touch of oc`ing of course ;)

Modular is the sort where you plug in the cables you`ll use and keep the ones u don`t want in the box it came in. Instead of tidying them out of the way in the case.

Now you've mentioned blu ray i have to ask this question,

What do you need to play blu rays on your pc? Iv read alot of descriptions about 8800GT gfx cards and they say you can play hd dvd's + blu rays... But i'm guessing you need a blu ray drive? Which one do you have? I can't see them being too cheap.

You can get a PS3 for the price of most blu ray dvd players nowadays.

Thanks for the replies guys you've helped me quite a bit so far, i think i'm gonna go with the CM Real Power... its just whether to get the 520 or the 620 now because i'm gonna be getting a few extra things like a fan controller, maybe a set of cathodes, i wanted to set up blu ray if possible, and im gonna be trying some slight OCing too lol... not no major OCing though.

Ah i see, modular is what i want.

Is the CM RP and the OCZ GXS both modular?

GXS isn't, tho IIRC OCZ do a ModXstream that is modular.

CM comes in both hard-wired and modular forms

:)

I've got an Antec Ear
