Which GTX970?...

I'd still go for AMD. Better OpenCL support and you can easily just OC it..

Stock for stock, the Nvidia card is faster with OpenCL. Overclocked the Nvidia card will still win.

It'll be interesting when the new AMD cards show up as to how much better they are with openCL. Open GL AMD wins hands down.

Vegas is mostly GL based it seems:

CL based stuff however and the 970 wins (just):

Just get the 970 seeing as you're not building a rig for just photoshop. OpenCL wise, its on par with a 290x.

True this dude :)

Yeah, but then it's older than the 970.. doesn't have the same kind of power efficiency, horses and less heat output. Specially in the 380T.

I just looked at Jayz video regarding the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC and was wondering if you guys still would recommend the ASUS 970 Strix rather than this one?... seeing that they also now included dual BIOS, for "fanless mode" up to 60C.

Sorry for being quite annoying guys... I'm just like the star sign fish, very unsure, specially when it comes to this, new hardware related things, and this kind of money. Since I'm no millionaire :p...

Well, for just 10 seconds difference, if you would directly go after that graph... 10 seconds isn't a whole lot imo when you are considering the better horses, power efficiency, heat output and the fanless mode.

What do you guys say about this, is it worth it or not in the real world?...

Thanks,

I'd just wait for the new AMD cards. It'll lower prices everywhere and they could be very good.

Which is when then?...

And wouldn't it be the reference coolers coming out first and then some time (few months) after, the after market coolers, which is often better than the reference ones?

If it was me, I'd just get that 970. New stuff comes out all the time and no matter how long you wait, the day you buy something, something better will pop up.

Okay mate, and if it were you again then... ASUS 970 Strix or EVGA 970 SSC?, since both seems to feature the fan less mode thingy now.

Depends on where you look. Some benches show a 290x in front.
OpenCL support is better on AMD. Honestly to me that's more important, plus you can find them cheaper.. power efficiency and heat output to me in a desktop is meaningless. Won't really make a difference if you get a good cooler.

Even in an mITX system?... since the space is very limited, compared to an ATX system with better airflow etc.

As long as you manage your fans well it should be fine.. I mean unless its a super small enclosure where it barely fits then ya it is a problem. Other than that it can be dealt with.

You clearly don't own an ITX system  Ask Barnsley, he regrets it so much, even with a reference cooler! Even though you're right about the 380T having more mesh than both our cases (Phenom and 901).

If the Strix fits, I'd go for that over the EVGA card, especially since their last generation of cards had so many failing coolers and such.

Haha, wait what?... Barnsley regret his decision of going ITX? :p

Well, according to this image and if this picture is legit, then I'd say yes it fits ^^

That bad huh?

Well to be fair, Barnsley's case, despite looking gorgeous, is a bit shit airflow wise as it only had 1x 120mm intake that doesn't even blow over the components. I've got a massive 230mm in the front of mine blowing directly over everything and my temps are brilliant, but I do have a reference GPU cooler that dumps the heat outside of the case.

Chrazey, are you sure the side panel still fits on too? :)

Haha.... not really no :p. I did PM the guy who has that specific build in the picture, but haven't gotten a reply.

EDIT: Actually that was incorrect, I had gotten one, just never noticed it lol :p ... I did ask him for pictures of how it would look inside the case, due to it's height and consider being so close to the top window part of the side panel.

Here it is:

He did though say this in his message as well... what would you say about this Feronix mate?...

If I were you, though, I'd go with the MSI Gaming 4G, it's as tall as the strix, if not slightly less, and has better features and cooling IMHO: the DirectCU cooler doesn't even touch the memory chips... and I'm a bit worried for that.
That is, if you don't mind the lack of a backplate...
And, if you plan on watercooling, EK has some nice waterblocks for the MSI, too!
Hope I helped you in your decision,

Your edit just appeared! Looks good tbh. Up to you if you want the MSI our Asus, either will be fine really :)
