Which GTX970?...

You can't really go wrong with the MSI or ASUS card. Considering you can't even see the backplate in that case, I don't see any down sides to the MSI card ;)

Your edit just appeared! Looks good tbh. Up to you if you want the MSI our Asus, either will be fine really :)

Well regarding the ASUS card, this has gotten me a bit worried and questioning wether to get the ASUS card or not. Since it will go better with my build rather than the ROG themed MSI card. Since mine is blue/black.
Not sure if this is true though...

If I were you, though, I'd go with the MSI Gaming 4G, it's as tall as the strix, if not slightly less, and has better features and cooling IMHO: the DirectCU cooler doesn't even touch the memory chips... and I'm a bit worried for that.
That is, if you don't mind the lack of a backplate...
And, if you plan on watercooling, EK has some nice waterblocks for the MSI, too!
Hope I helped you in your decision,

I wouldn't worry about the ASUS card. Its got the best ratings on PCPartpicker and many other sites. Just go with what looks best

Okay, now you've calmed me down :)

So you don't think this is/won't be an issue then?...

Hey guys, have another question regarding the 970... do you guys know if it comes with a cover for the SLI connector or where to buy one?... trying to get hold of a black one to put over the connector. For a more "stealth" appearance.

Thanks!

Nope it doesn't.

My EVGA GTX670 came with one back in the day... If I still had it I would've shipped it to you in an envelope. Maybe check the EVGA website or chuck them an email if they have a spare (don't tell them you're getting an Asus card though ;))?

And say what?... "do you happen to have a spare SLI connection cover lying around that I could grab?" :p...

They do have a store on their website with spare things and b-stock items like SLI connectors and backplates. Long shot, but you might find it there? Also, don't search for SLI connector, try SLI cover.

Can't seem to find one :(... only find 2, 3 and 4 way black/silver//aluminium bridges.

Btw, got the Strix today :D.... loooks lovely :D

I made an SLI cover by buying an SLI bridge, Cost £3 from ebay with fee P+P, Cut it into pieces i.e just cut the sections with the connectors off, Filed the little nibs to neaten them up, Put some cut to length adhesive backing strips on them and put some black plastic card on top, Covered that in carbon fiber vinyl for extra stealthy looks.

And here's mine I made -

How much you take for the other end of it and make it that way? :p...

Just remember that I got an SLI bridge with my ASUS Sabertooth P67 motherboard that I never used, cause I've had AMD for the past 4 years.

I guess I can do the same thing, as you did Dice with my?... but did you cut them off, measured them out on the card itself and then putted it togheter?...

  • Cut off both sides
  • Neaten them up with a scissors then a file or sand paper for the fine work
  • Clean them
  • Attach them to your 970's SLI fingers
  • Measure a small piece of plastic card and roughly cut it
  • Cut adhesive strips to size and attach them to the SLI connectors while it's still on the SLI fingers
  • Attach the plastic card to the adhesive strips on the connectors
  • Take off the connectors/cover
  • Cut the plastic card to shape
  • Put pressure on the connectors on a table to ensure the adhesive strips stick
  • Leave it for a few minutes for the adhesive to settle in
  • Backing such as carbon fiber is optional

Done ;)

Just a question here... asked Feronix earlier about upgrading from an 6950 to an 7970 would be worth it and he said it would be quite an upgrade.

Since I've only owned an Nvidia GeForce G100 and then an Radeon HD6950 2GB, and I was wondering how big of an upgrade it's gonna be with my new GTX970 Strix 4GB?...

In terms of raw horse power, power efficiency and FPS in games such as BF3 & 4, Crysis 3 and COD:AW?... But mostly asking for the general upgrade boost, if you get what I mean here?...

Thanks guys and happy new year (even though it's a bit late now :p),
