Yea support for Windows and by-passing it in some games. If you think about it there arent really many good games that support SLI. They have patches out that enable you to have SLI in our system, but its mainly a bypass of the second card. And if everybody thought like that then why would there be a need to exchange any card for another card? Why would there be WTT threads? Kinda odd if you ask me.

If he had no cards I would say get one card, but he hasn't so I say keep the cards he has.

Single card is what the industry looks towards as it is a VERY small minority of users who have SLI. But then companies have to have their high-end systems and SLI is certainly a showpiece for nVidia

There's quite a few games that support SLI

(lmao FIFA 07 is on the list)

*cough*

That said then, would u suggest that even though there are games out there that would support the inclusion of an SLI setup - there is also a matter that prehaps a similarly budgeted single card (same budget as buying the 2 cards) would outperform the 2 cards ?

Indeed, but not the card mentioned in the first post

I think you can get an X1950XT for around £200, which is the same price as 2 x 7600GT's.

That's not the question by the OP tho

Pffffft i wish I could get an X1950XT for $200. Willing to trade a 7950GT Xtreme Edition right here for one of those bad boys!

And as mention to my last few posts, just cause it supports them dosent mean it uses them. Most games just bypass the second card and make the first card do all the rendering without any problems. This is pretty much a reason why i wont use SLI (unless somebody either sold me 2 cards extremely cheap, or gave them to me :p)

SLI doesn't bypass the second card at all. It uses the rendering power of the secind GPU, but limits the buffering process to the memory on the first card.

This is why the 7950GT is such a good performer

I wouldnt know. :( I havent got to use my new toy yet (The 7950GT Xtreme). And everywhere i read on older games before SLIs time, when SLI was enabled the second (or first, w/e) card was disabled for single GPU rendering. If this is not the case then still. What is the point of having SLI for games like BF1942? (on the SLI list?) When i asked he didnt have games that would really take advantage of this kinda processing power.

The reason I bought those 7600GTs (the OPs cards are my cards out of CrossFlow) is my thought was there is a much bigger difference when you SLI the 7300s and 7600s. It allows you to play with the big boys. Since most already have 1 7300 or 7600 getting 1 more is pretty cheap (Newegg had the 7600GTs for $78 last week)

But if you have a 7900 and add another that is overkill for 95% of us.

Hehe try telling that to the people who think they need 80+FPS. Or the people who think youll need SLI and Quad-SLI 8800GTXs for Alan Wake and the rest.
