Slight Dilemma Opinions Wanted

OK so currently rocking my current rig
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7
Intel Core I7 2600K
@4.5Ghz with 1.36 vcore
2x Kingston Hyper X 3K 240Gb SSD's in Raid 0
WD Black 1TB Storage
HIS 7970's in Crossfire
GHz Bios 1050 core 1500 mem
Custom Cooled 420mm & 280mm rads
NZXT Switch 810 Corsair AX850

Its been rock solid for ages and still is. Got this bloke who needs a SB cpu for flashing his older SB stuff to support IB chips and what not. So he's offering me a trade. Either a Asrock Z77 OC Formula or Asus Z77 Extreme and a 3770K for my 2600K and UD7. So here it is in a nutshell I got the UD7 because it has dual 16x pci-e lanes for my xfired 7970's but they are only 2.0 and 7970's are 3.0. Both Z77 offerings have dual 8x but pci-e 3.0. I know bandwidth wise I'm fine but ya know the epeen may suffer a tad from not having x16 lol. So with that info what are the thoughts on OC's of the 2600k vs the 3770k overall performance increase/decrease should one expect 2600 vs 3770 and the likes. I've followed alot of this but for the life of me I cant seem to make a decision. I know 3770k's run hotter I've got great cooling so thats not a big worry but it is a worry lol. Anyway please put your thought on the whole thing.

oh afaik no $$ will change hands I'm also about to under go a case change so if I'm going to upgrade this is the time to do it. I'm finally getting the Phanteks Enthoo Primo case. Another stellar deal but thats another thread lol.

Afaik, PCI-E 3.0 has twice the bandwidth that 2.0 has so effectively you've still got the same bandwidth.

Most Ivy chips would be able to run at 4.5GHz however you only need to get it to about 4.3GHz for it to be as quick as your 2700k. Temps should not be a problem with your cooling set-up. You could ask the guy what kind of overclocks the chip can do?

its BNIB lol he is alot like me wheels and deals computer parts to either upgrade own setup or friends or sell for a profit lol. Also turns out his Asus board is the IV which is Z68 so thats out as if I do this I want Z77 for a 3770K

Intel mainstream CPUs only have 1 x16 PCI-E lane for graphics anyway, so the dual x16 via [insert chip name here] is a little bit pointless.

Nothing is pointless Ty for that my current board hosts a chip that allows for additional PCI-e lanes so as said nothing is pointless. My comments were PCI-e aside if you read the op again you'll see. My thought were along oc and heat and performance gains

But this may be a dead deal now as he hasn't replied to my last text. Basically offered my 2600k and ud7 fir his 3770k and OC formula which $$$ for $$$ is pretty equal in value leaning more to his favor as he needs a sb CPU I don't need to upgrade lol

PCI-e wise the z77 board @ 8x/8x with the 3770k has more bandwidth than your ud7+2700k. The PLX chips that 'increase' the bandwidth to x16 for each card are the pointless variety as they do nothing but introduce latency, hence I would jump at the chance to swap your setup for his.

been jumping and jumping some more but he's backing out on me now lol. And actual bandwidth comparisons between pci-e revisions and x factors shows negligible performance between 2.0 and 3.0 @ either 8 or 16x heck even 4x slots show decent performance in the charts I saw. But its moot now but I was liking the idea of moving up a generation at least. but alas I guess I'll still be rocking this powerhouse awhile longer lol. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. It plays everything I want at 60+ fps more towards 120 at high to ultra settings.
