I have currently 2x BFG 7600gt oc's in sli and someone wants to trade me his XFX 7900gs Extreme edition brand new still sealed in box... the 7600's have a permanent heatsink with no fan on it so i cant put aftermarket hsf on it... should i trade

Another vote in for keeping the SLI setup. The 7900GS isn't going to touch the 3dMark score of the GT setup you have.

But that 7900GS looks sooo Cool:yumyum:

Frags right, even my X1950Pro with a C2D(OCd) was only 10K in 3DMark05.Im sure the 7900GS will be even lower

You guys arent asking the right questions and are missing a valueable point. SLI is for high res like an 8800GTX. SLI shines under high res. He has a CRT and can probably only handle 1280x1024@85hz (max res i think he said was 1600x1200 which is prolly 60hz). If thats the case i say go for the single card considering 3dmark is ONLY a benchmark and he probably dosent have alot of games that are that SLI oriented. As to where a single card would shine and make the SLI look like a POS. Unless it was SLI of higher cards then i say single solution.

Edit, Mark is that a 7900GS or the 7950GT? It looks just like my 7950GT except with a boss Fatal1ty cooler on it.

who cares, that looks frigin sweet

LOL, my thought exactly.

I had the 7600GTs and they beat up my 7950GT. Than I tried the X1950Pro, games looked BEAUTIFUL but when the card got to 60C (not that hot) The comp would lock up. So I RMAd it. The 8800 is a waste at the res I game at (1024 X 768 or 1280 X 1024)

So I found this card for $150. Its a GS and OCd pretty good stock (525/1550).

Add a cooler and , TaDaa, good enough for me to game till DX10 gets sorted out.

Ur nutts, the 7600GTs in SLI ROCK!

Yea at high resolutions. SLI like 8800 cards shine at high res. So a single card solution would be better for him since he has a CRT. And could i do the same that you did on my 7950GT (the Fat Zalman cooler)?

ya but i cant put any aftermarket cooling on it :( unless u can get rid of epoxy completely.... and i am really really bummed about that cause i cant make it look pretty... :(

Single cards are better for playing EVERY game but I still don't see the benefit of exchanging the cards for one card as he has them.

I've used SLI on just about every modern card on the market and can safely say it's actually pretty good as far as support goes now, much better than it used to be.

Kemp, do u think it`ll ever reach a stage where mobo/cpu/card companies will say "look, SLI has been out for so long now, and u`r not running/coming up with anything that exploits it`s potential nearly enough" - eff it, we`re going to concentrate on single cards.

.. and single cards become the norm moving forward.

??

I`m guessing the arguement being; let`s say he has no cards and his question has slightly change to -- do I buy 2x 7600 or 1x 7900; do the goal posts then move, or do we continue to suggest another single card he hasn`t mentioned ?
