Virgin Media Doubling Your Broadband Speeds

100mb isn't available in my area yet so no one can have it atm and I was told that as I'm already set for the 100mb on its arrival here I'll get pushed to 120mb for no extra fee....

Thats the info I got yesterday from them, I phoned to check the date of the 100mb here and was told the above but either way I'd be happy with 100mb

I'm on the 30Mb service. I'll tell you what though, virgin are definitely the fastest but they are by no means stable in terms of packet loss and high jitter. I use to have a flawless connection until may last year. I couldn't game at all because I was getting packetloss and insane jitter. Luckily now it's fine although I still get packetloss. I know lots of guys who are on adsl and their speeds are low BUT their net stability is much better. This is because virgin are oversubscribing on their UBR's (exchanges). One of my mates who is on an adsl connection gets no more than 1 jitter on ping tests. You can also head over to virgin media's forums where you will see countless threads about people suffering from dropped connections high jitter and packetloss.

Thats the whole point of the next 18 months. Virgin are going to be upgrading all there exchanges and all there relay points (green cabinets) for all of the UK. They no there getting over stretched so there upgrading all the technology they already have. Thats why they are upgrading people as well because once the upgrade is over they will have the infrastructure to serve the amazing speeds they are offering.

Who told you that. My dad is on the 50Mb/s connection now so he will be upgraded to the 100Mb/s package but when he asked virgin if he could get 120Mb/s they said no because you have to be a 100Mb/s subscribe before the upgrade begins.

Virgin lol

The boost isn't happening in my area till June but the 100mb is here end of feb start or march so when the boost comes I'll already have 100mb

You sorta explained the above in your post 'when he asked virgin if he could get 120Mb/s they said no because you have to be a 100Mb/s subscribe before the upgrade begins.'

If that's the case then thank god. It was after I upgraded to the 30 Mb package that my net went haywire.

It's a known fact on cable forum that 50Mb will be first upgraded to 100Mb, but it WILL be then bumped to 120Mb after. There will be nobody on 100Mb after the upgrades. Virgin decided this because it wouldn't be fair to have people on 100 and 120Mb paying the same price! The tiers will probably be sold as 30Mb, 60Mb and 120Mb on the website after the upgrades are complete.

I for one am looking forward to my 60Mb connection! Though I think we could drop the phone as we don't use it (the line keeps becoming disconnected somewhere, it's been fixed a few times!) we would then be able to get 120Mb for pretty much the same price as 60Mb and phone!

100mb are first updated to 120 dude, then the 50s get 100 while all those paying for the 100 get a price drop for a month and then they are all on the same speeds/costs. its going to be 10-30-60-120mb from what i have seen as 10 is the new 2 xD

I'm responsible for picking our ISP in our uni house, Virgin were high up on my list. Considering I could be looking at 60 down 6 up at a reasonable price. Virgin are now number 1.

I don't think you are quite correct unless I misunderstood you, all other tiers will be done before 100Mb gets their upgrade to 120Mb. some 50Mb users will go from 50 to 100, then later to 120Mb while some will go from 50 straight to 120Mb. this is due to the 120Mb upgrades being done last and I think maybe even on a different schedule as I don't think the first 120Mb upgrades will happen until the summer. (this is what they have said)

Subsequently, Virgin Media representatives have been back in touch to clarify matters, saying:

"Following our announcement last week that we are doubling the broadband speeds our cable customers receive, we’ve started to write to let them know how it will work and what to expect. Our first email, intended for our 100Mb customers, was accidentally sent to some customers on other tiers which may have led to some confusion.

We’re sorry for any misunderstanding and will be writing to customers again soon to clarify how the upgrade will affect them. In the meantime, as part of our double speed programme we are delighted to confirm that 50Mb customers will actually be upgraded to 120Mb, meaning even more Virgin Media customers will be able to take advantage of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK."

Some 50Mb/s customers will see an initial rise to 100Mb/s before moving up to the full whack 120Mb/s, the telco spokespersons added.
