Video card BIOS flashing......

I'm looking at buying a faulty 7870 from my neighbours friend, info on it is that its a failed BIOS flash, resulting in it being bricked.

He has not got vga or a 2nd pc to fix it and has since bought a new card.... (also clearly not very knowledgeable when it comes to components)

How can i go about sorting this myself, as potentially its a £170 card for about 20% of the price.

thanks....

A question I asked with no answers

You may be able to restore it but you will need to do it with a dual PCIE board with a card in the top slot and the bricked card in the bottom one..

You'll most likely need to do it via a command prompt using something like ATIflash.

Well my motherboard has dual card capabilities, but I was going to go into BIOS and force the vga as the primary adapter and run my monitor through HD4000, this way I can have the faulty card in the main pcie slot (completely remove ny 4870 and still have the pc post (as BIOS is forced to not use the v.card)

and then follow the steps to re-flash with the original BIOS file.

I cant see any reason why this would not work.. Go for it

Have you told the seller that you can fix it this way ? I hope so otherwise your being a little dishonest don't you think ?

I am a little suspect on it ....

The guy said that its a straight forward fix providing someone has either onboard graphics or a second working card as to be able to still use the pc..... (both of which he hasn't got...which he does infact have with the new card, but doesn't realise)

What I think he hasn't clicked on is that now him having a new card he is able to fix it himself and sell as 'used' instead of not working.....
