PCI Wifi card causing surge protection

Hey, haven't posted in a while but having a problem with a wifi card i bought recently.

The Wifi card is an Asus PCE AC88

The motherboard is a relatively out of date Sabertooth X99

The PC powers up and i can get into windows for a short time, The point at which the surge protection happens feels slightly random, The Wifi card works during this time and can perform speed tests etc to see that it is indeed hitting the speeds it should. Ive read that Asus surge protection on motherboards can be a little..... sensitive? And most places suggest turning it off, but im not sure if that is safe to do so or not.

The PC works and functions as normal without the card in but with it, it will just switch off at a random time, usually within a couple minutes at max. I wondered if this was perhaps because the heatsink of the wifi card is basically touching the the top plate of one of the gpus, though i dont think this would cause an issue?

The wifi card is currently in the 2nd slot on the motherboard, as both main slots are gpu filled. This slot i assumed is capable of powering the card.

Its been so long since i did any pc related things that my mind has gone blank about most of these things ^_^

Any help would be appreciated as i literally just bought the thing brand new to fix internet issues.

Thanks

Try it in another slot and see if you get the same behaviour, could be a bad slot or could be a bad card...

Could try updating the BIOS and making sure the drivers for the card are up to date?

Also I have had drop out WiFi issues for 2 years. Recently got a new router and viola! Basically fixed all my problems. So it could be the router too. Update the router if possible. That should also help. It helped my old router drop out less often(but still at least once a day)
