Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade laptops harddrive from the 5400rpm to 7200rpm. Anyone done this before? Any noticeable gains in performance on a Celeron 1.6M? I already got a quote from www.rescuetechusa.com that they will do it for $130.

Thanks,

George

You would get more performance gain trying to upgrade the cpu or memory then the hardrive. Harddrives are easy to upgrade depending on laptop easyest way to do it your self is get some backup software and make a image of the hd in the pc burn it to a dvd then put new one in and restore that image. For my pc i keep a image of it when i get everything way i want to restore incase i need it.

I wouldn't bother. I used to have a Celeron laptop; believe me, there isn't much you can do it to cause a noticable performance increase. You'd be better to just start saving for a new system.

U`ll notice a heat increase where the drive lies.

(so far I have)

But it works ok so far.

As to the overall increase in the laptop performance... I made it a gig too, but I`ve not pushed it to this point. In the next month or so I`m setting it up as my internet usage machine - so maybe I`ll comment then.
