Boot looping has left me scratching my head!!!

Hi Guys,

So I'm currently running-

3950x
Crosshair VIII Formula- latest bios version updated while trying to trouble shoot
32gb dominator platinum
6900xt red devil ultimate (new addition)- previously vega64
HX1000 (new addition)- previously rm850
all on custom water 2x360mm rads push pull

So about a week and a half ago i got my new gpu put it straight onto the matching waterblock and backplate. all was good system booted straight away played a bunch of farcry6 all weekend no issue. woke up on sunday to find my system off and stuck in a boot loop.

Everything post's and is recognised by my mobo as is normal but as soon as windows goes to load it stalls then reboots rinse repeat as long as I leave it.

of course straight away being a new gpu i thought something was going on there. but I swapped in a generic basic gpu hard reset my bios and left with default settings and still the same issue.

I don't think its a ram issue as you normally don't get any vga output with a dead stick etc, power def shouldn't be an issue.

I thought it may of been an issue with my boot drive so i created a bootable USB on my laptop and the same thing happens as soon as it goes to load it stalls and boot loops.

So now I'm thinking its either CPU or Mobo. But leaning towards CPU as it seems that as soon as it gets any load it stalls reboots.

Anyway looking for some advice? Has anyone encountered something like this before?

to replace either CPU of mobo with equivalent is expensive and just out layed a bunch on my gpu so just want to be as close to sure as I can be.....

thanks in advance

Xr

I would suggest cleaning of the cpu, take it out to refit it, new thermal paste, see what it does, and on top of that i would reseat the ram, try booting it without any drives connected except for the bootable usb, just to see if there is a bad connection there.

Just an update.

My suspicions were correct.

For what ever reason the 3950x said it wanted a divorce. And decided to stop working.

As I thought as soon as any sort of load was place upon my CPU it would stall.

I even tried this Ubuntu environment I have which loads off a USB stick into the ram and no dice.

So I shelled out for a new 5950x and after a couple of setting changes in my bios we were off to the races.
