OK, next update, I bought the 3D vision kit, thought I might as well, and boy I don't regret it. Actually for me when I was playing the games for the first time in 3D, it took me a while to actually just appreciate the fact that there was this extra depth. These are no cinema glasses, and the package as a whole is far more convincing than I can remember in almost any movie, maybe with the exception of Avatar. Dabs economy option delivered in two days, which isn't bad considering it's free and only one day later than the premium option.

Initially I was a bit sceptical over the 3D as a concept, but the difference in quality between what I'd experienced before and what I have now, well I think its swung my opinion.

When it comes to installation, all current GeForce GPUs usually have the 3D drivers bundled with the normal display driver, so setup was almost plug and play. Charged the glasses for the 3 hours recommended, then just went through the nVidia control panel 3D setup screen. Have to say that for whatever reason the web-based 3D didn't look as good, but maybe I haven't set it up right.

So here are some pictures:

First up the box

And the glasses (note that these are made of actual glass):

This is the IR receiver (I only need connect the USB cable in (Type B, same used for cameras and other media devices), the wheel is to adjust depth of 3D field, the jack to the right is for Mitsubishi TVs (special ones), forget the middle one's purpose in life):

This is the documentation, and that rounds off what's in the box:

And this was depressing (the bottom):

The games I've tested this with are Mafia II, CoD Black Ops, Metro 2033, Dirt3, DNF (which ironically I will not finish, it's utter crap), Crysis 2, The Witcher 2, and CSS. All of them look pretty good, though a majority are "3D Vision ready", but I've yet to try out some of my other games.

I have ordered some case lighting, so that will be in this log in a few day's time, then when I go to Uni I will update you with pics, and I'll probably order a sound card with a system around that time. Then I think this build will truly be finished.

Thanks

I'm considering buying a 3D Monitor instead of a regular high quality IPS Monitor. The only thing putting me off is the fact that I get headaches when watching 3D content for more than an hour.

Hmm, I'd say its a quite even match. With IPS you know that the colours you're getting are good, and its very high quality stuff.

When it comes to 3D, one thing you have to try and do is make sure there is not much ambient light, i.e. close curtains, or the extra light reflected off the screen can screw it up a bit. But I didn't have any headaches myself yesterday, and I was pretty tired when I was playing. So as long as you take breaks you shouldn't get headaches. What do you currently use for 3D?

I don't have any 3D enabled devices yet. I was referring to the 3D movies at cinemas. It may just be because of the size of the screen that I get the headaches.

They say that 3D works the muscles in your eyes quite hard, and the older you get the weaker those muscles become. So as you get older you are more likely too feel the effects of working your eye muscles harder and be more likely to suffer from eye strain and headaches. 3D is also not recommended for young children either.

Yes I think there is some value in that, older eyes have to work harder as it is anyway, but I wonder if you are introduced to 3D when you are young, you might get used to it.

I got a headache from watching 3D transformers at the cinema, but that's the first time it ever happened. I take regular breaks when I have gaming sessions anyway

So do you think that the active shutter tech is better then the passive glasses that you get in the cinema?

I'm not that old, lol. I think its because I haven't experienced a lot of 3D content and it may be a matter of getting used to the whole thing.

I think the shutter technology is better, I suppose its difficult to properly compare seeing as I haven't used both types on the same setup, however you get the sense of depth coming out of and into the screen, and I've not had headaches.

It could just be getting used to it, if you are able to try it out at a store or something that might be better.

Just played Napoleon Total War in 3D, and seeing artillery fly past your head is just breathtaking

It's slowing your internet down that much?

I can resize them if you insist, but will have to do that later after work

Yeh, I think I need to try it before I can come to a reasonable conclusion.
