UK broadband is among the slowest in Europe

Ouch. *heads off to see what other computers are doing*

lol i hear the reason that countries that have more recently reached first world status have faster internet is because they basically got internet later, and simply adopted faster standards as their first standard. when i was in seoul in 2007, 100mb/s seemed to be the standard. it was like... the cheapest package we could even get for the few months we were staying there, and i don't even know anyone there who has anything but 100. for the same reasons, india was supposed to get the fastest internet in the world some time ago, but not sure exactly what happened to that...

The average speed for the UK IS on the rise. When I got upgraded to BT Infinity (40 down, 8 up) I was getting faster than 96% of the UK. Now, i'm only faster than 92%. It's been, hmm, 6 months? Maybe more, idk.

people knock virgin/cable and tbh i think they are great, i am getting double this come the end of the summer for the same cost.

i have always got what i pay for or more, middle of the night i have topped out at around 45meg.

some of you guys would be better with my mobile phone btw, i never get less than 4meg from that when i have a signal.

They're great when it works. When it isn't working which is often where I'm from due to oversubscribing, it takes virgin forever to fix. It took them 3 months to fix a problem I see them fixing in other areas in about 3 weeks. I also hate their call centres. I always get the person who cannot be heard.

Not surprised at all. Solidarity is totally right. I'm with virgin and they were flawless until May last year. Now my area is utterly over subscribed resulting in a packet loss ridden connection. It still hasn't been fixed to this date

Im on O2 atm and get around 4mb but the bt/plusnet engineer is coming today and then i haz fibre optics!

I'm on o2 as well, its got worse for me over the years, too slow now. Will have to speak to my parents about upgrading to BT Infinity2

Its got a lot slower since i asked for my MAC code lol, doubt its a coincidence

lol

I've requested a new router from them and even still the connection was slow. I called them, the remote connected and changed a few thing in the router settings but still connection was slow, they said everything is fine but it wasn't and o2 would do nothing about it .

When o2 launched their broadband, it was very good, quick and cheap, but not anymore. Time to request my MAC code soon
