"Troublemaker" build log

UPDATE!! all of the parts (well, except for the PSU) are here so i should be building within a week. unfortunatly, i lost my phone recently so i wont be able to take photos of the build untill it is completed. i'll try to get some pics up as soon as possible!!

Hello All! so, a few months ago i decided i wanted to build my own pc to replace my current one, which i had built and is falling behind. So i did some research, got some advice from here (thanks for that by the way) and made my decisions. Now, i thought that actually getting those parts would be the easy part. Boy, was i mistaken, and that's why this build has been named "troublemaker" before its even begun.

Ok, so firstly the Asus 280x i wanted was sold out in every single shop (online or other) available to me in Aus. Eventually however, about 5 weeks ago, one of them was expecting to get a few of them in. Unfortunately, if i wanted to make sure i got one then i had to pre-order it, and i didn't have the money for my whole build yet. That being said, i knew that i'd have the rest of the money 3 days later, so i thought what the hell, and ordered the card.

However, 2 days later a mate of mine ran into some strife with his car, and needed some cash. So i lent him some, and told him he could pay me back within 2 weeks.

During those 2 weeks my 280x arrived... the wrong 280x. it was the V2 instead of the regular one, so in all important respects it was identical, except for the looks and the output ports. it was missing the HDMI output i wanted (to run it to my TV as well as my monitor). However seeing as the cards were so similar, i elected to notify them but not send it back. i didn't want to wait to be stuck waiting for the right card to ship to me after i already had the rest of the parts.

In hindsight, that was probably a mistake, as 5 weeks down the track and my mate has promised that i'll get the money back... tomorrow. so, pretty much bang on what i expected. unfortunately, during the wait PCCG, where i was getting the rest of my parts from, marked up the Corsair RM1000 i wanted. So after a browse online i found that nobody could do it cheaper, and amazon wouldn't ship it to me. However, they were willing to ship an AX860i for around the same money, even after the ludicrous shipping cost. The only problem is that i'm going to have to wait another 2 weeks for the PSU to get here.

And that brings me to now, with a Graphics card on a shelf in my bedroom and 2 shopping carts waiting to be finalized. I'll update when the parts start arriving, but for now, here are the specs.

Case - NZXT Phantom 630, Windowed edition
CPU - Intel 4670k
Memory - 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 2133MHz
PSU - Corsair AX860i
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H
SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 250gb
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 3tb (from my current pc)
GPU - Asus R9 280x DirectCU II Top V2
CPU Cooler - NZXT Kraken x60, which i'll try to mount on the bottom

And that's the important stuff, all color coded to Red/Black/Grey inside. I'm also getting a dvd writer, a couple of extra case fans and an NZXT Hue controller, among other things.

Any feedback would be great!

Oh, and here is a comparison of the Graphics cards.

here is what i was expecting:

And here is what i got. its also a three slot cooler as opposed to a 2 slot like the other one:

as you can see, no HDMI ports, so i'm ordering a DVI - HDMI adapter cord

and here is pretty much the only reason i'm not too disappointed with getting this card over the other, a nice looking backplate.

oh my god there is a top v2 version for new cards? dude you have no idea, you should be jumping in circles because that DCU2 top v2 cooler trashes their new design. especially for AMD cards.
i had a 7950 using that design and even though the 7950 was highly disappointing that cooler was impressive.

is that so? i haven't had a chance to try it out yet because it wont fit in my current case to do a test run. its almost impossible to find any information on the V2 cooler online, everyone only talks about the normal one.

in other news, ALL THE PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED TODAY! most of them should be here in a week, its just the Amazon ones that are probably going to take more time.

Borrowed someones phone to take a photo. Swapped out the top and rear fans with better ones, installed the PSU and unleashed the Kraken on the bottom. Hopefully the mobo will arrive within a day or two so i can finish it off the build, its all im waiting on.
