Tomb raider

and as usual, i'm at 30% and i just drop the game for no reason. it's always like that, i play game for a few hours and then i just don't start it up anymore for some reason.

You're spoiled. No offence with that but basically I was like that too. Too many games to ever bother playing one properly.

I fixed it in the end by basically not playing games for a couple of months then picking them out and installing them one by one.

Before that I would start one, then start another and not go back to the others.

I really like Tomb Raider. It's not too hard to get into and it's pretty linear but it's just really cool. The graphics are pretty damn stunning too.

Yeah, I do that. It's like a short-term addiction. I've often dragged myself away from a game late one Friday evening (too late) knowing exactly what I plan to do over the weekend (sad, lol) then, come the weekend, I have zero interest.

Not touched TR in a week, other than to run the Benchmark, I have however gotten back into Skryim of late.

well i wouldn't call it spoiled. i just always find my way back to Quake and promod pretty quick and those games i have played for years now. i'm just not much of a singleplayer person.

How did you get on with the benchmark? The game itself for me runs as smooth as silk but I was quite shocked at my min FPS in the benchmark. It was only about 25. Average was 50 but then I have Vsync on.

Got a bit of an odd issue with the hair on TressFX (sometimes it flickers) but other than that no issues to speak of. Having looked at other benchmarks I was again shocked to see just how hard it hits performance and SLI is obviously working properly as I've seen a 7970 get as low as 12 FPS on min.

Let me just run it for you, I've enabled the new features introduced in the last update, plus I have newer drivers now...

Ok, just ran it with vSync OFF - that's likely why your average is poor btw - and got:

Min FPS: 58.5
Max FPS: 105.1
Average FPS: 82.5

That's with everything Ultimate/maxed etc.

Throughout the bench GPU 2 is 5-10% higher than GPU 1 load-wise. Max load I every see is 94%, CPU doesn't break 30% overall, with all cores evenly loaded.

TressFX used to glitch, quite crazily on some runs, but seems to be fairly settled now.

Just flipped back to the menu screen, CPU usage is now 45% overall, still fairly even, GPU's 70-77% on GPU 1, 72-87% GPU 2 - with GPU 2 consistantly being higher - Guess it's not TressFX causing the uneven load then.

Another two hours last night. Computer hard locked the first time I loaded it which was odd. Getting really far now and have nearly leveled up all of my stats. Great game.

I've had the odd CTD in TR, the last once after I ran the tests for you yesterday, it CTD'd on exit. Generally fairly stable though. I did however have my 2nd monitor on and the likes of Process Explorer, CPUz, GPUz and Core Temp running, as well as my own tweak tool. So, likely not helping stability. Not actuall played it again yet though as got back into Skyrim - well, more precisely, tweaking Skyrim more than playing it.

Dear god I love this game. Last night I played for over three hours and it just gets more and more insane the more you dig in.

I do question how on earth Lara manages to get up after some of the spills she takes though haha. She's surely have every rib broken as well as her legs.

It's awesome though. True super hero sort of game.

I did reach a very frustrating part where you tumble down the rapids and have to dodge things you can't even see (or get a spike through your throat). It caused much swearing and MDS (multiple death syndrome) but I did pull through eventually.

Best game I've played in an absolute age.

Yes, it does gives you some wow moments. I particularly liked it when I got the climbing hook thingy which opened up new areas and routes to me.

That rapids bit you mention though is a nightmare, it wasn't quite apparent to me exactly where to go. I mean, I chose a route that was visually clear several times, but it was obviously the wrong clear path as I got the spiked death scene more than once. Pretty nasty those deaths actually, not entirely sure I like them.

Not actually loaded TR up in a few weeks...maybe I should revisit it soon & try to finish the game.

If someone made a patch to remove the cut-scenes, or allow them to just play the "success" version I'd consider playing through again. As it is, I HATE those interactive scenes.

Well not quite no I just had to learn when to bank left and when to bank right without being able to see

I've deliberately avoided any tombs so a second playthrough is a certainty tbh.

what i dont get is i have the steam acheivement for 100% completion but im missing some for maxxed gear etc.. its kinda funky that i should have the acheivements but they didnt pop... so im defo replaying it just so i can get them lol

Steam cheevos never worked properly for me. I remember purposely going out of my way on Fallout : New Vegas only for them not to work grrrrr.

And L4D2. I wanted the cheevo for honking clowns on the nose and had to do it about four times before it finally worked, gitting thing !

Finally installed the updates for Tomb Raider tonight to fix the hair. Sometimes Lara would go bald

Funny thing is I got to the part where you rescue Sam and her hair was stuck fast lmao. Bit off if you're going to go on about a new technology then only do it to the main character.

I've just finished it on the Hardest difficulty. I found it quite easy but I enjoyed it all the same. The controls are a lot more fluid than the other games, and the combat is quite good. The quick-time events are annoying though.

One thing I found odd about the game is how it portrays Lara as an innocent young women that isn't used to killing people, but by the end of the game her bodycount is completely through the roof.

I think it's a worthy reboot of the series, but since I grew up with the old ones on the PSX, I don't think anything will ever give me that wow factor again. :p

What wow factor?

Couldn't stand them tbh. Poor Mario 64 stand ins.
They're pretty crap now I'll give you that. I gave the 2nd one a shot over the Christmas (I got them all in a bundle on Steam), and I got sick of it after the 1st level.

But playing the 1st Tomb Raider in 3D back in 1996 was pretty damn cool even if the controls were god-awful, given the era. Particularly for me given that it was one of the 1st games I played properly in 3D.

I used to love impailing her on spikes.
