Those kneeling chairs...

Anyone got one/tried one?

Ive been suffering from back problems for around 2 years or so now (not good at 16!!) and i doubt my current chair helps matters. I know fixing it will take a while and numerous different aspects..but...do these chairs actually help posture, feel comfy and stretch all the right muscles?

I would like to try one, but im a bit sceptical to whether it will help or make it worse!

cheers

I don`t know tbh, but as I saw those chairs appear and disappear, I`m imagining either no1 bought them cos of the looks or there was a health issue. i.e. it saved ur back but u got... knee cancer or something stoopid.

Totally understand ur fear of sitting and back stress - it is something u should nip in the bud at an early age and continue to look after it.

Ur issue too is that ur body is still growing, up to about 21/22, so u could be experiencing growing-pains too. But if they`re growing inline with ur chair-style, it`ll hurt in later life. Not just with ur back, but legs etc (cos they`re connected :p)

Best bet is to just follow a seating guide from a health and safety perspective. Now I know it doesn`t sound cool, but they have a guide on using pcs and sitting at the desk, which is pretty good and shows u what is the best way to be comfortable and healthy.

Yep, I've even got one as well as my comfy leather exec. I alternate between them but can confirm they do prompt you into sitting up straight, which if you don't makes your knees ache! You can still slouch on them, which defeats the point somewhat.

I'm forever being told 'Make sure your chair is close enough to the desk so you're not leaning forward, adjust the height so your eyes are level with the top of the screen and the backrest adjusted so that when sitting with a straight back it supports your lumbar region.'

You'll soon get fed up with that and start slouching back / leaning forward depending on the on screen 'activity'.

Honestly, the best advice is to get up regularly and walk around, plus exercise (aka a session on the Wii when not on the PC/PS3/360):D

well iv got all my physiotherapy exercises which is primarily targeting my legs (stretches etc.) but i cant help feeling it mostly boils down to my choice of chairs. We have never really had a proper chair for sitting on, they hav either been under £50 or something scrounged from work lol.

Meh, scrounged from work isn`t always a good option. Chances are the original user changed them out cos they got too slack or something. But if it`s just a chick wanting a new pink one, it`d be fine.

meh i can tell its crap

creaks, cushioning worn down etc..

<<< needs a new one lol

problem is where can i go to try b4 i buy

Aargh! Some1 else`s arse groove :p

What u can do is see if there`s a section of the seat that opens. If it does u can either replace the foam or stuff it with more or something.

(furniture store I worked at a while ago used to do it when customer`s complained about furniture losing it`s "new" shape and were hysterical)

Out if interest what has your physio asked you to do?

Sitting for extended periods of time causes the hip flexors to shorten, your glutes and abs to become stretched/weak and your pelvis to tilt forward... Tight hamstrings too...

Get active mate. I can't recommend martial arts enough for fitness, flexibility and strength.

im probably more active than quite a lot of people my age

i enjoy the odd run and participate in crap with the scouts (got a 10 day walk in switzerland end of the month! :D)

im deffo joining the local gym (again) over the summer hols and ill probably join the local tae kwon do group, as it seems to make sense over my previous judo group

Cramped in by the stairs on a narrow desk is probably where your posture got screwed and you still look cramped in your room on a desk that's no wider.

You really need to get that wider desk and replace the blue chair with one that has lumbar support.
