The time has come... 1070 to 2080?

Hi all,

Well I posted a couple of months ago where I was pondering on the idea of upgrading to the 2080 in the hopes of hitting around the 100fps mark ( where I feel comfortable ) at 1440p. My current 1070 I would like to say good around the 60fps with things set to high/max (game dependent).

I guess I just want a bit of clarification to whether people think the upgrade is worthwhile now that the cards have been out for a little while and having being trialled and tested. Rather than just looking at benchmarks it would be nice to hear what people were actually getting.

Just for clarification my basic specs are as follows -

3770k @ 4.4
Extreme4 Z77
16gig 2400mhz
650w (just big enough!)
Ssd's etc
Windows 10.

If voted yes then I'll be clicking the order button in two days... 😍

Thanks in advance, any comments much appreciated.

Lee.

Honestly, If you can get a 1080ti at a good deal. Opt for that instead.

Its almost on par with a 2080ti, cheaper than 2080. In Anthem on ultra with a single card I achieve around 85fps. That drops during the storm weather.

There is an extremely poor performance > performance value on the 20xx cards at the moment, And unless you have money to throw away without hesitation, I would say steer clear.

so from my POV. Upgrading to 2080 is not worth it. If you look at benchmarks you probably see that the fps gain isnt that great anyway.

I don't think you'll find a GTX1080Ti cheaper than an RTX2080 in the UK anymore, both can float around £600 but you'd likely have to go through a route that leaves you with no warranty(Second hand or similar) for the 1080Ti, otherwise you'd be spending £1000+ for the 1080Ti.

Both will be about 30-50% faster than the GTX1070 which should get you to those 100's from 60's but the RTX2080 will be about a further 10-15% on top of the GTX1080Ti in many modern titles even without DLSS or similar.

Well my immediate thought was used/second hand since a retail 1080ti is almost impossible now at a good cost.

They're making too much second hand to consider really. I saw a Titan XP sell for £560 about two days ago. 1080ti are making 500 notes easy.

good for me. I have 2 of them :D
Although butter smooth BFV at 120fps is ba yute eee ful

I won't be replacing mine any time soon. It still holds 2100mhz easy under water (then becomes throttled by voltage, not heat, which I can't do anything about). I decided to run Metro Exodus at native 1440p as it was supposed to eat GPUs. Put it on ultra and most of the time I can hear the card whining because it's well over 100 FPS lol.

And yeah, BFV is more than pretty enough without RT IMO.

Cheers for the replies all. I was originally considering the 1080ti but I'm not a fan of buying second hand. It's nice to know that if anything goes wrong you've got the chance of an exchange or money back with the current warranty.

RTX doesn't bother me in the slightest but Dlss even though not currently favourable might be something worth looking at.

If there's performance gains towards what I'm looking for then I'll definitely be considering 2080. Vega 7 looks tasty too but I've always had an Nividia in my system and to be honest have never been let down by them.

Cheers again.

I need to get this off my chest. I keep seeing "The time has come..." on the recent threads section and this always comes to mind.

"Commander Cody, the time has come. Execute Order 66"
