R.E. your last question. I think its more to do with pre-existing problems which can manifest into violence sometimes.
Second this, definitely a difficult one to pinpoint. really hard to get a control to see the difference, short of separating kids at birth, but even then its nature nurture.

However, asking the folk in here to complete that survey will heavily skew your results. A bit like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas
I think it's good to ask a lot of different "kinds of people". I'm going to ask parents, people at my school, maybe some teachers, and then people on forums. I've made different surveys for every group I'm checking (with the same questions, but this way I get to see how each group thinks of this). I can talk about the different opinions of the different groups in the essay (most of you guys answered that you game regularly, play violent videogames and think it has influence on your behaviour, but not as bad as the media says). I think parents will say they never game, certainly never play violent videogames and say it's as bad as the media says and such. I'll try to analyse why in the essay, as I'm quite curious myself :lol:
I think it can influence violence for sure but it depends on the person, I doubt any of us (at least I hope not) get violent through videogames but just as an example on a different subject, a young kid did a submission move on his baby sister a few months back after watching wrestling and killed her. I can't remember how young he was, he was young but it still shows an influence just from watching something.
And with all these 18 rated games, how many of us were actually 18 before we were allowed to play them, I doubt there is many.

If you're asking different groups of people you need a way to differentiate between them. "parent's opinion is x" "gamers opinion is y" otherwise it's a little pointless, it's slightly too vague at the minute in my opinion. Even if you re-make the survey on another link specifically for each group it will help a lot with you data analysis

I'd like to say that games do have an effect on people, but not in the way the media likes to portray. The stress releasing side of gaming doesn't really sell as many newspapers as some mass murderer who once played GTA when he was 16.

Also a good point. I wouldn't say Call of Duty was a stress release game though.
Heh, I guess it depends on the person. Play something for too long and it's likely to get you stressed. I've been known to chuck a few controllers across the room in rage (curse you MW2 commando lunge), but in moderation it's quite an effective stress reliever.
Then again, "It depends on the person" kinda applies to everything.

I very much doubt anyone would go on a killing spree over a video game. If you do that, something was already very wrong in your brain anyway.
Obviously it does influence behaviour though; same way TV shows and movies do. If you see a character you like live a certain lifestyle some people like to take inspiration from that, but most are clever enough to realise that you can't walk around town stabbing people and stealing cars. Again, if you think that, something was already wrong with you in the first place.
How many times have we seen 13 year olds act cool towards kids the same age over a video game though? A couple years back I couldn't even walk through town without some little kid making fun of another because he beat him in MW2... It's quite sad to think that videogames can be a cause for serious bullying too.
Either way; The media always like to exaggerate, it sells papers and gives your site views. In the end media is just another business that tries to make as much money as possible

do games affect behavior, of course. that being said, games arent going to cause murder any more than banning them would prevent it. violence existed before video games, its a part of our nature ant always will be. We need to stop trying to blame it on external factors just because we dont like that fact.

Always thought that your own imagination or lucid dreaming is much more dangerous than any game or media out there if it were to influence you to actually be violent. Think about it, every game has it's limitations of what you can do in it, but in your imagination you have no limits, you can be as violent or you can go as far as you want, there's nothing stopping you.
