Starting from scratch

Well I've been tasked with sorting the internet out for our new house. However due to the immense amount of renovation done, all the previous system is gone.

Obviously I wouldve preferred to keep as much in tact as possible but the previous owners ran a tea import / export company and there was 4 internal networks in the house along with at least two cable lines running to the house. This coupled with the worst wired home security system in history has lead us to just rip everything out back to where the cable enters the house.

Now we want cable, that's decided, preferably phone, net and TV if possible, if not then just phone and net. The problem is, however, whos going to come along and install a whole new system? Obviously an ISP such as BT would but im not going near them.

Does anybody know of a good priced cable provider that will come and reinstall all the wiring from outside the house? And if not, where do I turn to have that done in preparation for taking out a contract with an ISP?

So just to clarify: You have removed the cable box on the outside of your house or do you need a new one installed? ally you may have a different system to us in the UK....

I can't help with the cable provider, but if you're looking for an alternative to get the cable brought into the house from the box outside, then you might consider an electrician with a license to install data cabling. We have heaps of them here in AUS that act as both external contractors to our largest ISP, and in opposition to them as an alternative to the high install charges that ISP's charge.

Iirc, some1 the likes of Virgin would do that. I`m assuming there is the main cable running down the street, and ur just not hooked up to it.

Cant exactly call Virgin the cheapest, but if u want a 3 device deal and not necessarily 20m broadband, they may be reasonable.

Virgin are extremely unreliable and have the worst customer service going from what most people I know that are with them say. Virgin and BT do both do installation but with both I think you get tied in to a contract with them afterwards.

I think getting a phone engineer in to do the wiring and stuff would be the best bet but I still need to shop around to find a good deal on the package. Bet it will turn out to be BT or Virgin now lol

U can get people who will tell u all of the isps are crap and unreliable.

I`ve been with Virgin, then Ntl, since cable internet was born. Never had to phone them so I cant say they`re unreliable in that sense.

The trouble I have with BT is that they're cheapest land line is £25 pm and I never use it so I have loads of credit on the account and they won't hand over a cheque unless I cancel the line. I'm going with Virgin BB and use my router with their modem
