hey
so iv been offered a samsung 840 256gb (older model) ssd for just under £70

it's 8 months old.

should I buy or get a new crucial m500 240gb off amazon for £9 more

really stuck as iv never used an ssd before

I have the Samsung 840 EVO 256gb as my boot drive. I have noticed an increase in boot speed. but not much else as I also have mechanial HDD as mass storage

I've only one game installed to my SSD and it runs fine with no problems.

One thing you must not do is defrag it as though it was a mechanical, SSD's use flash based memory storage. Every write that occur's to the SSD gradually wears it down but I have read that the Samsung SSD's are good for 50TB's work of writes.

If buying new would you pay the extra £20 to get the samsung 840 evo over the crucial m500 ??

in the 250gb/240gb models

Crucial have come a long way since the V4s, and the m500 are a quality drive.... but the Samsung 840 Evos are also a very good quality drives and in certain areas out performs the m500 by as much as 40% especially in heavy read/writes so it would in my opinion be worth that extra £20.

Personally I'd get it new. SSD's aren't really the sort of thing you sell on unless you have an issue really?

If that isn't an evo or a pro don't get. I have the 120gb version (I think samsung call them the 'basic') and they're quite slow as SSDs go. They'll be selling it as a £50 kingston drive is faster.
