ssd and backup drive question

G'day everyone got a bit of a noob question that im not sure about and there is no better place to ask than here. So my ssd and 3tb backup drive are set to ide in my bios but i want to change the ssd to ahci, now if i do this will i still be able to access the movies and pics and stuff on my D: drive once i change over, now don't worry about C: my ssd, im gonna reformat it its just the D: drive as i have 1.5TB of stuff on it so will i still be able to access it or should i remove it first or whats the go? Cheers for any replies.

Definitely remove it when you format the drive etc. Is there anyway you can make a copy of it to be safe?

Thanks for the reply and the short answer is no both of my back up drives don't have enough space left.

I'd wait till someone who's done it before or knows more replies then mate Anyway you could back up the most important stuff to reduce the size or anything?

Funny its all important but i do understand what you are saying and yes i probably could back up a fair amount but with the usb3 not working its gonna take me forever
