SSD amazing price.

Yeah, you miss-read slightly - it takes me two and a half minutes to load it to my ram drive - so thats around 10gb being transferred. Launching the game then takes around 3-5 seconds. Area transitions are equally fast. Two and a half minutes spent at the start of my gaming session makes the whole session much much more fluid. My friend & I did this at the same time, splitting a 32gb kit between us giving us each 24gb in total with our existing ram. He is loading from SSD, myself from a convensional HDD.

yassarikhan786: Yep, vs. a conventional drive pretty much ANY SSD should be great - not sure why my friends is rather underwhelming but that's likely a separate issue. It's the current cheaper - basically sub £1 a gig - drives vs. their more expensive siblings that make an interesting comparison. Personally, at current prices, these cheaper models are hard to resist. I think only if you want absolutely the best real-world speed would you go for the more expensive drives. I am watching the market with interest at the moment.

You will find that the £1 a gig drive are just as good as more expensive drives. Take the force 3 on offer, on paper not as fast as a Force GT or a Vertex 4. But in real world operation such as playing games and loading programs your not going to notice any difference.

I think if you buy a 120gb Force GT or a Vertex 4 over this drive your mad. If i didn't have two of these already i would buy it in a hart beat.

I'd tend to agree - that was part of the point I was trying to get across. Ignore the peak speed benchmarks, as they don't truely represent the day to day performance. But do be aware of where the cheaper drives make their saving and their peek figures have been achieved with highly compressable data to squew the figures. To me, especially coming from a mechanical drive, these <£1 per GB drives are very very tempting indeed. RAID0 them & I think you're geting a far better deal. 2x "cheap" 120gb drives will likely cost no more (possibly cheaper, depending on model) than a single "expensive" 240gb and RAID should give them a performance edge.

The key is that regardless of whether the drives actually get that peek 500mb/s with or without compression it doesn't take away that in the real world these drives are proving to be strong performers. Again, this is based on the reading I've done...I'd likely not have done such reading if I wasn't so very tempted by these particular drives.

Well form the review I just read this ssd actually appears to be very good indeed and that price is just insane

I'm really tempted by that Kingston SSD from Ebuyer but SSD prices seem to be dropping more and more lately, think i'll wait another month or so before I decide.

Knowing my luck though they will go back up in price.

Amazon are doing the SanDisk Extreme 240GB for £160 (and Novatech too) which is pretty awesome TBH. I won't be making my new build until July so hopefully prices drop more

Ya, it sucks because I waited forever for SSD prices to drop and they never did so I picked up a 120 GB Force 2 last summer and now they a lot less expensive.

SSD prices drop when my road tax is due. We're just not lucky people when it comes to price drops. Like i brought my graphics card for £150, a week later down to £115.
