spec out for new build.

So my hand has been forced to build my rig sooner than I was ready to due to my laptop taking a dive off a cliff today. So I was back to square 1 till about five minutes ago and just kinda through a spec out together and would like some advice on the lot. This will be a gaming rig for games such as WOW and Diablo 3 things that arent to demanding but still have the option of doing more with it. Might also double as a F@H rig (not sure how it would do though still new to F@H)

MoBo : Gigabyte Z77 1155 socket

CPU: Core i7 2700k

PSU: Corsair AX750

Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600 DDR3

GPU: EVGA GTX570HD

Case: NZXT Phan-001 WT

HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200rpm

SDD: OCZ Agt3 60GB ( been reading the reviews on this so it will more than likely change)

So feel free to throw ideas out there trying to keep this under $1600 US and this is the best I could do with out compromising the ability ti upgrade things like the gpu and ram in the future case will eventually change to a Cosmo II

I can't really Improve it other than the ssd looked at the mushkin chronos range yet? also I'd go with a 2600k the 2700k isn't really worth the extra from what I'v read.

Maybe get a 7870 instead of a GTX 570, it has more video ram and overclocks really well, since it is a more recent gen card I would prefere it.

PSu and CPU are fine. But I recommend you don't use an OCZ Agt3 series, those drives arent so great...

I recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148524 instead of the OCZ one, Crucual M4's are great they are some of the most realiable

On a different note, your mobo what type is it? there are a few Gigabyte Z77 boards.

Oh sorry I will have to look at the MoBo again and get the product number for u. I had a feeling that ocz was goin to get replaced anyways i don't even know why i selected it so change it shall. And I will look at the 7870 but been been a big ATI/ AMD (what ever they are going by these days) fan, but its worth looking into. Also look at the processor again see if there is much a difference between the 2600k and the 2700k to justify paying more

The MoBo is a gigabyte ga-z77x-d3x, and yall Mabel right on the 2600k vs 2700k but am goin to look into it further. Right now with the spec as is with a crucial 64GB instead of the ocz I might just have enough for some extra case fans and a noctua CPU cooler.... Mmm

2600k the 2700k is a slightly better 2600 and often the 2600k performs the same as the 2700k when they are both overclocked.

The motherboard is fine

btw the 7870 performs better then the GTX 570 in general

Some extra case fans are not realy necesary I believe it comes with a few, you can always add those later.

As far as CPu cooler goes if you want the best air cooler go get a Noctua NH D14 or any of their coolers really they are fantastic.

I myself use an H80 from Corsair, mostly for esthetic reasons besides the fact it keeps my CPU at 5.2Ghz nice and cool (I have an I5 2500k)

I meant to say I have not been a fan of AMD/ati. And the last 3 digi's of the mobo are d3h not d3x my phone is about to piss me off with this dang auto correct crap.And I was thinkin of the nh d14 just couldn't remember the model number but I have have to change ram for clearance issues with the heatsink. Maybe I will just go with some mushkin ridgebacks instead. This is just making me aggro trying to spec a build out knowing I am not going to be as happy with but but then again I won't know until I get it put together and use it.

So kinda of a twist of things this morning. Im at the house when my pops drops by (after seeing a post on my FB wall about my laptop) and hands me his spare (newer than my spare) laptop. So now this doesnt change a thing about building a rig but i do have a the option now to push it off or slowly purchace everything.

With that said I also noticed how I went straight for a Z77 chip mobo last night with out realizing that in the end I probably wont run a IB processor. So my question is is there a benifit to running a 2600k on a Z77 chip mobo versus running a 2600k on z68?

So the layout of the spec would be:

MoBo : GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P

CPU: Core i7 2600k

CPU cooler : Noctua NH-D14

PSU: Corsair AX750 (I will eventually get the single braided cables)

Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600 DDR3 (Probably change to mushkins for clearance)

GPU: 7870 (brand undecided)

Case: NZXT Phan-001 WT

HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200rpm

SDD: Crucial M4 64GB (maybe a spare or larger for smart response cache'ing)

This seems like a great build. I use the gigabyte z68 board you have mentioned there though and although it is now working great thanks to some overclocking advice from Firat i was a bit iffy with it at first. See what the others think but maybe go with a slightly more expensive z68 since you were going to go for a Z77 in the first place?

Also i def agree with the others. why spend that extra cash on a 2700K when a 2600k will do all you need it to do and overclocked can produce similar results!

Edit: I just looked on scan and the 2700K is only around 12 quid more than the 2600K maybe you should consider the 2700 then.. decisions, decisions!

What are you running stable at 24/7 and what have you pushed it to in the past? I think I might have read the thread where you were haveing trouble with it lastnight if I remember correctly. Also the 2700k vs 2600k pricing over here in the US is roughly $12 so yeah for the extra $12 it may just be worth it to get the 2700.

What problems where you having with OCing that are related to the mobo above?

About the ram: You could also go for the Corsair Vengeance Low Profile, they are sleek looking and are very short modules.

Hey mate, I am now running 24/7 4.3Ghz stable at around1.32vcore load temps maxing out at around 58 (tested 14hours on prime)

To be perfectly honest blaming the motherboard is prob just me trying to find something to blame rather than it actually being the hardware. I would say my problems were more likely down to my inexperience overclocking because i have read reviews and the board seemed fine. Only problem i did get a few times is the boot loop problem if you overclock incorrectly which required me to remove power to restart but this is known to have been an issue with many gigabyte boards from what i've seen.

In response to your other question, i tried to get to 4.5ghz but i think my chip was one of the unlucky ones and i was fast approaching 1.38vcore to get stable which i really didn't want.

EDIT: I too recommend the LP corsair vengeance modules. I have the arctic white low voltage ones and they're great!
