Spec Me A New Desk/Table

Ok so I'm looking for a new table/desk, Currently I have a large rectangular black table from Ikea but as with everything from Ikea it's made from paper mache and bits of cardboard then sold at an upmarked price and it's started to sag in the middle, Plus with my monitor stand the clamp as it needs to be tight has started to cave in that part of the table due to it being cheaply hollow, Even though it was quite expensive.

I'm looking for something with the measurements of 150x70, At least 1 inch thick and nicely supported, Or in that rough area and made from actual wood, Not MDF, Presswood etc.. but actual tree.

Price isn't really an issue but nothing insane.

Any pointers would be appreciated :)

Why dont you just use your ikea feat/sides you have but get a solid wood top made?

Think even Ikea do some solid tops.

2 of the legs have started to come away as they are cheap aluminium so I'm just going with some altogether brand new, Good thought though :)

The legs are fine unless you move them loads.

Im sure they do some solid wood stuff. I film on a table I got from Ikea.

Im sure some Ikea legs and a huge bit of wood is going to be your best bet.

The price of Ikea stuff for what you get is pretty spot on Id say, proper sturdy office furniture costs a small fortune (hence why I use Ikea :p)

Well 2 of the legs I have are trash and wiggle due missing what appears to be a lot of welding, The other 2 legs though are 100% solid.

I'll have a look in Ikea but I'm not buying MDF/presswood again as it's trash compared to solid wood and still costs a fortune.

I think "fortune" is a little OTT when an Ikea top is about 40 quid.

Ive got rectangular legs and you just bolt the round bit to the top so no real welding anywhere on mine

Well I went round to my local DIY store and they said they'd do me a 5 foot by 2 foot 2 inch thick piece of solid real wood untreated for 100 quid.

Not bad really considering Ikea sell solid wooden tops for a metric butt ton more, It's a shame all this presswood and MDF became popular, Such a horrible cheap material.

Now I just need to get my 2 janky table legs welded ^_^

You should still pay him for his time...
And why on Earth do you need a welder for wood work anyway? Or is a welder in the UK different from what us American folk call a welder?

If you read everything you'd realize the legs are metal and the welds are breaking :p

I kept seeing people talk about MDF and wood sorry. I've never seen a metal Ikea desk(or anything really) so I also assumed wood/mdf

The actual table is MDF that I currently have but the legs are metal that screw into it but 2 of them came a bit janky from the factory so a friend is going to weld them for me :)

Well the local timber yard fell through so I'm taking Toms advice and getting a good solid desk from Ikea, An all black Bekant with really sturdy all metal frame and even includes a cable tidy area underneath

I was looking at the Holdall but anything is an improvement over the Holdall so I went with the Bekant....
