Spare hardware , make it of use (F@H) !!

Pick, I could put that to use if you'd be happy to fire it off down here?

I should have the new motherboard in a couple of days, if it works ok with the Quads then my current one is yours.

I seem to remember you use to live in Canterbury? If you do I can save on postage as I will be off to my perents again in a week or two.

Yeah man, I'm in Canters.

That would be brilliant!

Keep me posted and I'll keep my eye out for some ram.

The board I got doesn't like my quads either. Bummer.

I am in contact with someone else on ebay who has a later revision board which should work. I'm trying to offload one of my boards to him as part payment. If he takes the offer and I get the new board, and it DOES work then there will be a spare board still.

If he doesn't take the offer then I may end up with 2 boards.

One will still be avaliable to Kup for the price of postage (or meeting me in Canterbury) with the 2ghz chips. There will be anoher one avaliable with two 3ghz chips.

Unfortunatly I cant let the 3ghz chips go for nothing. So I'm putting the offer open to you guys first but if no one is interested it will go on ebay.

Kup, you can have the 3ghz chips if you want, I havnt decided how much I want for them but I'm not thinking the moon.

Also, having recieved the second motherboard, there are small brackets on the rear of the motherboad where the CPUS are. The heatsinks dont screw into the brackets, but they will make it easier to secure a heatsink without a case.

Guys, if any money is involved, even if it is only the shipping cost, you must post it up in the FS&W section. This just ensures there is a good record of the transaction and in the appropriate place on the forum.*

*standard FS&W rules apply

That's fine and all, but we are doing folding hardware from folders to folders. I have had a look at the rules in the FS&W section and I'm not sure how this would fit in.

The hardware that Kup has offered to take off my hands should be going without money changeing hand so that doesn't apply.

But My second board with the 3ghz CPUs. If that's going towards folding I don't mind that going for only a small amount. Anyone else and I would want the current ebay value.

Same goes for other stuff that I'm happy to give to go towards folding. I would want the postage coverd but the item goes for free, but only to a folder. The people active in the folding forum seem pretty genuine so I'm happy to go along with the honor system. Anyone else, or the item not used for folding and I'd want the value of the item.

Not trying to be argumenative, just want to know how all this fits together.

Any monetary transaction on this forum has to go through FS&W. If no money is involved, no need to post there. If money does change hands though it really has to be posted even if it is only the cost of shipping. I understand this makes more work for the people donating, but this is something that needs to be done. I asked for clarification on this issue just to be certain. OC3D wants to keep everything the same as far as sales go here, no exceptions.

All you would have to do is make a post in FS&W, state the shipping cost, post a pic, and mark it as sold. The person receiving the donation would need to post stating they are paying the shipping cost. Once the item and money have exchanged hands, just do a follow up post.

I've been a long time folder and I think what you guys are doing in this thread is awesome. I really wish I had some spare gear to donate as well. Please don't take this the wrong way, I really trust the active folders too and an honor system probably would work, but it leaves us open for issues down the road. I would hate for any members to take advantage of someone's generosity or trust and OC3D wants to keep this place as safe as can be.

If you need any more clarification feel free to ask. I don't want this type of donation system to go away. I love the fact that our team is close enough to do this sort of thing and I'd hate to cause any kind of rift between members.

So are we free to arrange the deal in here and then stick a post in the FS&W section and mark it as sold right away?

I'd say for free parts or free parts with shipping charges yes. Just be sure not to do it through PM and post all details in FS&W. If you are asking even a little money for the part itself all negotiations should be in FS&W.

Example:

"I have X mobo, anyone want it for free? Just cover the shipping"

"Yeah, I'll take it"

From there, move the transaction to FS&W. State the shipping charge there. Have the person interested in it respond like a normal sale. Remember, FS&W isn't an auction house. It's not like someone can come into the thread and steal the donation from someone else.

It's a little more work, but it covers all bases to keep this safe and fair.

Sorry guys.. i started this thread and so far my slots are all taken,

but i am going to upgrade again so i am pretty sure i'll have some spare hardware in de near future

Hey guys,

I've been meaning to make a dedicated F@H rig for sometime now, as the AMD based rig im currently folding on is extremely slow. I am currently on the lookout for a Intel compatible mobo which I hope I can pick up from somewhere but still leaves me with the CPU and the GPU. After having a rummage through the cupboards I've unearthed a spare psu, an old HDD and an old case with bits of ram lying around.

Yeah man, I'm in Canters.

I have sent my second board off to someone who may be able to make use of it and in return he should be sending me (for a small amount of money) and board that should work with my E5345s (quads).

When that turns up and is indeed working with my quads, the original board will be avaliable to you with two E5130s (dual core, 2ghz, (c2d))

There are quite a few RAM options avaliable on ebay... here is one

The board can actually go upto quad channel but I don't know how much faster that is than the same board running dual. But even in quad channel the numbers it produces are less than (or maybe on par with) my c2d laptop.

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up.

Will keep you posted

You're a legend!

Kup. Which CPUs did you want?

Like I previously offered, you can have the 2ghz cpus along with the board for nothing. If you want the 3ghz ones I'd have to ask for a little bit of £££.

Honestly I don't mind either way. Just need to know so we can sort things out on the For Sale board if required.

Are they the same except the core speed? How much would the 3GHz ones be?
biggrin.gif

Yeah, it's just the core speed. They are both 1333mhx FSB and have 4mb cache.

I dunno... I could ebay them for £30 to £40... so, £20?

Have you had any thought on how you will cool the CPUs down? Cos obviously the 2ghz will be much easier.

Oh and the 3ghz will clock upto 3.25ghz rock solid stable using set FSB. I didn't spend the time to see how stable 3.3 was (but IIRC Prime did throw an error after a while at 3.3), 3.28 seems very stable and it folded for days a 3.25.

I'm sure I'll be up for that, would it be per CPU or each?
laugh.gif
I'm going to mount a couple of TRUEs on them, somehow.. I'll figure it out!
biggrin.gif
lol

£20 for the both of them. I managed to squese a guy on ebay to sell me the pair for £35 with free postage. I'm glad for them to go to a home where they will fold.

As soon as my replacemnet motherboard arrives I will get a picture of the old one with the CPUs and get a thread set up in the FS/W board.

I figure its easier to just leave the CPUs in the board and have the lot look like it's being sold combined rather than take the CPUs out, picture them, put them back in.... etc.
