It looks like Intel's Skylake K Series may not Ship with an Intel Stock Cooler, but instead are expected to be used with higher end 3rd party solutions.

Though I understand why they wouldn't bother, having the stock cooler does give you an option if for instance your pump dies or fan dies to use while you order and wait for delivery

Yeah, or if you've not quite got the cash for an aftermarket solution yet so you run that for the first few weeks.

But I see where Intel are coming from, this saves them money and if they ship a cooler with the CPU that can't even keep up with it, users will blame Intel for it.

Oh the new K series... The review samples are going to be brilliant and the ones we buy a one in a billion lottery...Think I'll be waiting on user input to get onboard with them...

Dont see much point in that if i whant a chip without a heatsink i'd buy the oem (i doubt intel will pass the saveings on to the consumer)

That's simply unfounded and not true, ES parts are not cherry picked at all. TTL has pointed that out in a couple CPU reviews as well. They maybe could do that but imagine the response from the massess... Bad for business.

I, for one, am glad they're leaving the stock cooler out, horrible things them! As for the package being cheaper, I doubt it too. They'll find some sort of marketing maze to keep the prices up. My money is on leaving out the cooler whilst keeping the price the same.

From early leaks it looks like Haswell K users will see a tiny improvement, I'll wait for the Skylake Refresh, Kabylake next summer:)

Also keep in mind, its not all about the CPU. Check to see of the mobo offers features that you currently don't have.

I am getting bored and wanting to replace my 3770K. I can't find a reason to do it other than some features on new newer chipsets.

Very true but personally the Z170 chipset doesn't offer anything that I want TBH :)

Well I haven't seen a single reviewer that wasn't able to get a 4770K stable at 4.5GHZ at least. On the other hand there were a lot of ppl on several forums that couldn't get them stable at 4.2GHz. Now some of them might not have the knowledge to do it right. But makes me wonder.
I'm not questioning TTLs reviews in any way. And do not expect him or anyone else to go buy 10 random CPUs and test them. But he can't be sure if the sample sent to him was pretested. He just has to take their word for it.

I would like to have an M.2 to play with. The LED lighting on a board similar to the new MSI board could be fun to play with.
