silver kill coil question/problem

Hi guys,

So my problem is that after disassembling my loop I found that my silver kill coil turned into this:

The coolant was not discolored and the parts when rinsed came out clear
I disassembled my cpu block as well and its was perfectly fine.

Now I am rather worried, as I think I have another kill coil stuck in one of the rads from about 18 months ago, might have come out during one of the tear downs, however cant remember.

So any thoughts guys? Also how long is one of these supposed to last, I never did get around to finding that out.

EDIT: If you see photo 2 I managed to scrape some off, probably a coat after all? I wonder if it is safe to use again hehe.

The kill coils should last, just clean down with ipa or something like ipa to get rid of all the nasties, then rinse and return :)

If it is pure silver, as long as it is clean of all nasties, then it should be ok as it is still silver so should work fine

Haha, was thinking the of doing that, but that was after I decided to bend, cut and scratch it. Oh well, was going to give pre-made coolants a shot anyways (XSPC E6)

:o well aint that embarrassing

Anyone have an idea of how this happened? I haven't mixed any metals in the loop, and I change the water every 3-4 months when I get a break from work...
