shipping a System abroad advice

I think this is the right section of the forum?

I'm moving to China next year and will be sending my rig (just the base unit, Mouse, keyboard etc) via UPS or some such. Should I take the CPU cooler off?

What sort of cost of shipping should I expect to pay?

cheers

I HIGHLY recommend using DPD.

I have it on pretty good authority that they are very good with this kind of stuff. I personally had to send a graphics card to germany and they got it there in 2 days. and I got a text when it was arriving and stuff. All as standard.

I believe the cost is based on box size with them + value but I only paid about £12.50. I know a guy who sells bird seed to europe etc so I asked him (nicely) if he would do it through his business and it was quite cheap.

Personally.. I'd take the cooler off if it's a heatsink.

They seem very expensive for something like this mate. If it's more than £50 to ship i'll just sell the system and buy a new one out there.

I'm guessing my rig weighs no more than 20kg's and has air cooling.

When you move your things to china, it will cost some money. I know that i payed around 30£ to get my items to Spain from Denmark, when i was down there. So check all place and then get some info on the price and all that.

well tell us what case your using or what you think the size of the box will be. Shipping large items are based on weight dimensions and value. Dimensional weight is always higher with things like computers. Example if you send just the case for a computer it will cost the same (minus insurance) as if it was a full rig. the formula they use for shipping is length x width x height and dividing by 139 so say a box 24 x 24 x 18 (normal computer sized box) / 139 is 75 lbs in dimensional weight so you will pay for 75 lbs even if the box is empty. Simply because it will take up 75 lbs of room on whatever transport is used. I can guarantee you 75lbs shipping is gonna cost you alot more than 50 quid. I owned a shipping center for 9 years mate shipping is expensive. Specially when you go across the pond.

Thank you for the advice.

I have an NZXT Hadez case L60 W 25 H55

You know what, I could just send the bundle over and sell the case couldn't I :)

yes that would save alot of $$ in shipping costs. But first is this just a trip or a more lengthy stay?? Just wondering about household goods and furniture items lol wouldnt cost anything to toss it in with that stuff.

ok ran a case of those dimensions and it came out to 20lbs but thats the exact case size you'll want at least 2 inches of padding around the whole case plus you mentioned keyboard and other stuff. No real way to get a cost without just taking it in to a pack and ship place and getting an estimate.

Contract is a year long and could well be longer than that if it works out. TBH the only thing of real value in a PC is the HD with all the data on it. The other stuff you can just buy again. It's a right pain all this though, might be better to sell.

you'll be in China right so I'd think parts would be a-plentiful lol

I've decided I will sell the case/Monitor and PSU mate (both heavy) and anything else worth anything i.e. GPU's etc
The CPU, board and RAM are going with me. I don't want to start from scratch over there. I'll get fleeced as it is for GPU.

5 things are needed for a PC: MOBO, RAM, CPU, GPU, HD, ....and a PSU! And a case. I just want to make the move as painless as possible because I use my PC a lot. Buying a few items in China like a case wont hurt my budget.
