semi-future proof project

il explain what i mean by semi-future proof .. basicly, my pc isnt the best spec for gaming, which i do a lot of, so im going to build a new one (time is not on my side so it will be a internet build, on finace for 4 years) :p

now, no one knows what beholdes the future in 4 years time :( but i want to build a pc i can still use and get decent performance out of within that time and hopefully after it...

predicted pc spec:

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad Q8300 (4 X 2.50GHz .. will overclock a bit myself) 1333MHz FSB/4MB Cache

Memory: 4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x2GB)

Motherboard: ASUS® P5Q

Operating System: (Install it myself)

Hard Drive:(at least) 250GB 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

CD/DVD Drive: 22x DUAL LAYER LIGHTSCRIBE DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM

Graphics Card: 512MB GEFORCE 9800GTX

Sound Card: Sound Blaster® Audigy® SE with 7.1 Surround Sound

Network Facilities: WIRELESS N 300Mbps PCI CARD

Power Supply & Case Cooling: 450W Quiet Dual Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan

Processor Cooling: SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER

things im looking at is mobo, cpu and gpu, or mainly the gpu..

im quite sure that it could play crysis on high settings (possibly max?) and im guessing the average game will be around, but hopefully not too far off, that type of quality in 2013 :yumyum:

what do you reckon? any components that i should take another look at? (and im not made of money, ive looked at a core i7 jobby and .. f* that  )

If you're on a really tight budget, go dual-core and get a gtx280.

My old X24400 with a 7800GTX Ultra got about 6fps in Far Cry 2. Borrowed a 4850 to try in it and got an average of 29 on Ultra High. Graphics > Processor.

Looks great mate, i'd upgrade the GFX card tho to either a 260 or 280 as you will get alot more power and it won't cost you much more

I might be tempted to go for a PSU witha bit more juice (450W is a bit low for future proofing), and maybe go for a Q6600 and OC while spending more on a 260/280GTX.

On the other hand, when you say finance, do you mean that you will be in a credit agreement with some company for four years. If so, that equates, even at a good store rate to nearly double the price of the original project.

yeh would of been finance for 4 years at 19% i think xS .. but i think im jsut gonna buy cash..

so dip a bit on the processor, oc it and spend a bit more on the gpu :)

mroe than likely go for the q6600 since it overclocks very nicely

The q6600 is being phased out in the year, but it still OCs really well, especially with a good mobo. Cash is deffo the best answer...otherwise finance = £££££s
