I don't see why things need to "accept" bitcoin, just change it to money and buy things.

bitcoin has got to the point in difficulty where you need £1000's of hardware to make it worth while.

Ah I was just about to put that allot of people will be jumping on this, but maybe not. Also reading the post about needing thousands of pounds of hardware also puts it out of the question for many people

yeah, to cover the cost of hardware and power then it costs quite a bit.

if you wanted to mine i would suggest joining a pool and trying for litecoin or feather coins, has a much lower difficulty.

my 7770 was making about 5 feather coins a day when i last tried a few months ago, then again they aren't worth as much

Its a shame they don't take Litecoin or Coinye (rip) as those are much less intensive. I feel like I should've jumped on the bandwagon when it first came out but now I'm pretty relieved I didn't.

I tried mining Bitcoins back when it was semi-possible for the average joe. They would have been around $18 or so at the time, it was well before they went into the 1st mania and hit $200, or the more recent ~$1500 peak.

I canned it because I hadn't the SSD space to accommodate the entire Blockchain. I should have persisted, but even then I probably would have needed my 7950 to be mining for 1 month+ to expect a single block. ^_^

The ship has long sailed for mining Bitcoins, I'd say it's pretty much sailing for Litecoins at this stage too.
