Scan Computers now take Bitcoin as payment - Is Bitcoin becoming Mainstream?

Bitcoin over the past number of years has became increasingly more famous and more widely used, with many rises and falls along the way.

Today Scan Computers has became one of the first UK Online Retailers to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for everything they sell online.

For those of you who do not know what Bicoin is, Scan has posted a video on their Bitcoin Payments page. This video is shown below.

People whom wish to pay via Bitcoin will have to either mine the currency themselves or buy Bitcoins from a Bitcoin exchange to use.

Today Bitcoin is not profitable to mine without specialized/expensive hardware so I advise you not to mine Bitcoin today, Try an alternative currency like Litecoin if you want to start mining.

It is also important to point out how Scan also offer dedicated mining PCs, like the one pictured above in the Corsair 540 case, At the price of almost £2000 with a somewhat miss-matched Hazwell socket pentium CPU and 4 R9 280X GPUs, it can easily be said that if you are not a miner DON'T BUY THESE RIGS.

Now, is this a good move for Scan? off-course it is, all publicity is good publicity as they say. By the looks of it Scan will always keep up to date with the current/interchanging value of the currency, and will change the coins to GBP as soon as possible to prevent a large sudden crash or rise from affecting the company.

Scan have also said that they will also refund their customers with Bitcoins if they purchased with Bitcoin, but will only give back the amount according to the current Bitcoin to GBP exchange rate, so you may be refunded more or less Bitcoin but the GBP value will remain the same.

What do you guys think, would any of you like to pay using Bitcoin on other UK websites or even on the highstreet? Lots of people want it to head that way, and even technologies like Bitcoin price tags (called BitTag) have been invented to aid its use in-store (Picured below).

2k for four 280xs and a pentium? GG. Pretty sure you could do the same for less. Why put it in something quiet, like a Nanoixa or fractal case? Considering you have to run the GPUs at 100% fan speed when mining as to not ruin the warranty you need a quiet case or a rack (if you don't mind noise), not a nice window case.

Well if it was just for mineing why bother with a case hdd windows 8 or even a haswell pent lol a 4gb usb stick with linux installed on it a amd sempron+mobo+cheap 4gb stick of ram+gpus running on top of the box.
Its not a viable way of makeing money anymore with gpu's the only thing you will be doing is heating a room of your house a little cheaper.

There 2k mineing rig --> http://3xs.scan.co.uk/configurator/litecoin-mining-pc-10

Problem i see is that the value of bitcoin fluctuates so much that if they don't keep prices update to date with exchange rates they could lose a lot of money.

That's not how it will work. You will add to your basket in Pounds Sterling then at the checkout you will be able to convert the cost into bitcoins using an up to date exchange rate.

This is an epic story btw. I'm very excited!
