SATA drive for me

Next month I am wanting a SATA drive.

I want one that doesn't cost too much (so probably not a Raptor - that will have to wait) and I don't want a massive drive - 100gb will do me (or there abouts).

What will people recommend and links to some good quality, cheap drives (UK) are much appreciated.

Thanks :D

And just for Dave - I may think about getting a DVD-RW drive ;)

Before getting my raptors i was reading up on a comparison of the fastest SATA drives - it turns out that the Hitachi Deskstars kick some serious ass - and you can get a 160gb one for £50 too!

Hey kemp, I reccomend this drive a LOT.

I got this score on HD Tach, stock.

and it's unnoficially the fastest SATA drive you can buy that's not a raptor.

Yeah I heard that about the Hitachi drive.

And thanks for the info Nick. Just wish I could get it over here for that price. It would be straight into my basket next month ;)

oh i trust seagate too tho my 80gig barracuda sata was failing, rma'ed it tho. my dads 120gb barracuda is still holdin up gr8 and its older than mien

you also should look for a harddrive that stays relatively cool so as not to cause unwanted heat inside in the computer case

Not really that bothered about that. My Maxtor stays chilly as it sits in the HDD cage of the CM Stacker and has a 12mm fan blowing straight onto it and through the cage :D

i have a very well performing Seagate drive but as it seems i am the only one who still trusts Seagate.
I have Seagate Barracudas in my system-1x200G SATA and 2x80G PATA's. Seagates SATA's rock, and their bang for the buck is spot on. :worship:

thats quiet alot of space you have there PV, do you even use it all? ( 360gb to be exact)

Nah I don't use it all mate lol. I use the 200 Gig SATA which is partitioned for my Windows install, movies, downloads, fav apps, digital photos, Uni stuff, etc etc. One 80 Gig HDD is used for backups of my system using Acronis True image. I took the other 80 Gig out of my old computer so it's there for something one day, it is a bit of overkill but hey :D

well atleast you have a little more space to mess with, and you wont run out :yumyum:

Yeah my Barracuda's are hella fast but kinda on the loud side, for you silent-hdd-peeps. I hate fan noise, but like loud HDD's so I can hear it loadin.

i have a light that tells me that :)

i can hear my maxtor but it isnt loud. i know when it is doing something tho...which is nice

Yeah mines the same.

Anyhoo - going for the Hitachi deskstars. 2 x 80gb in RAID 0 striping for me :)

Damn I love my hitachi. The only way I can hear it with acoustic management on is if i take the side of teh case off, and put my ear next to the hdd, and i can hear it puttering away happily :D.
