I see it comes out fearly cheep at the moment compared to other cards, and scoring looks over the top.

What do you guys think about this card?
Would you reccomend this card or another ?

I will play games with my Dell U2714HM at 1440p.

Try and see if you can pick up a 7970 or 680 for cheap is what I'd be doing, neither's going to be able to own every game at 1440p though. You'll be needing to turn AA down or off in quite a few games if you want decent fps and possibly some other settings. Did you watch TTL's 280x review?

that card is a beast as far as 280x/7970s go but you'd probably have to go crossfire with another one to get decent performance at 1440p. At that price you might as well look at either a 290,290x (wait for reviews first) or a 780.

At 1440p you don't really need AA as much(or just lower levels). So this will make it more playable but as others have said it will struggle after graphics are raised to high. Very few games can be run 100% maxed at 1440p with a single card.

Hi all,

From the reviews I have read regarding this card I can say that it looks like a decent performer considering that the R9 280X's are refresh cards of the HD 7970 (not having a pop as Nvidia lead the way with the GTX 760(670) and GTX 770(680) refreshes) With that in mind it has become a contender for my new rig although granted in CrossfireX format.

That being said I agree with "barnsley" and that being so close to the R9 290X launch everyone considering crossfireX 280X's should wait to see just what AMD and its partners can pull off with the 290X cards.

If the idea is for a single GPU then the Sapphire R9-280X OC Toxic will be a very strong contender and one that can keep up with most GTX 770 non ref designs (within 5-15FPS depending on the game etc) which is not bad considering that 'Non' reference GTX's are in the £330+ bracket.

Thanks,

The benchmarks on this card are nice, at stock it performs 20% better than my clocked 7950. On a decent 280x a core clock of around 1300-1400 and memory clock of 1900-2000 should be achievable before water cooling. That is a 25% overclock on what already is 20% better than my 7950.

All theoritcals and a 25% OC does not mean an extra 25% performance boost.. These newer cards are just much higher binned along with slightly stronger components it seems.
