Sabertooth x58 nortbridge temps.

so my northbridge temp is at 70 at idle and goes up to 90+ under load. not sure if i should worry about it, or just stick a fan on it and call it good. what do you think?

90+ is way too high I think. Go ahead and add the fan.

I put one temporary fan in for now, but need to find a more permanent solution. if i switched to an air cooling setup on the CPU would that be a good solution or should I find a dedicated fan for it? dont want to cover up the board. I like the look of it.

The IOH ( Northbridge) on these boards according to Intel and Asus will operate safetly up to 100 degrees.

thank you lasher. you have eased some worry. even though it is safe i think i will still find a 40mm fan for it. even with the temporary fan the temp is down to 55

Id also change the TIM on the black as that can take upto 10c off tbh.

55 degrees do sound quite reasonable. I would try to replace the thermal compound with something like the NH-1 or mx-3.

Changing the thermal compound got my x58 nb from 52 to 39 degrees, so its def worth it.

well, what a chore that was. not sure what ASUS uses for TIM, but it's more like chewing gum. Pain in my ass to get it off of the chipset and heatsink, but it's now done. mounted a 40mm fan to the heatsink and put it back together. still sitting at about 55-56, but I find that acceptable. Thanks for the help. Now to see what Tom has to say about the 560.
