Ive sacked buying a new monitor and i am thinking about buying a new set of 5.1 speakers, i was thinking these ones.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=280819

or these ones

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=315677

Secondly i was wondering, the box says the woofer should be atleast 2 feet away from my PC and monitor etc, but i dont have anywhere that is 2 feet from my pc that the woofer could go.. so i was wondering if the woofer would still damage my pc even if it has to go through my desk. I can get some pics if that would help..

I think pics would really help.

I envy you so much..

DEFF get the Z-5500 speakers. the best 5.1 ever made imo. i love them so much, im gonna be getting them for christmas. they are gods. nice quality, LOUD and huge bass. i got the logitech z-2200 2.1, they are damn good aswell. z5500!! from me

Sorry about the poor quality just snapped it off my phone. As you can see the woofer i have is pretty huge so i would have thought the new one would be pretty similar.

Also, i have no idea where to place the rear speakers other than on my desk which wouldnt be the best place.. i was thinking of attaching them to my bed which is above me, but that would be hard as the satilites dont swivel side to side.

If you can take out that shelf and place the sub on the bottom to the left it should fit and is also more than two feet from your computer.

P.S. the sub is HUGE

The sub won't hurt a thing. :)

I have two massive speakers sitting right next to mu PC. Hasn't done a thing.

Bloomin heck, larger than the one i have? wtf lol.. It must be HUGE...

Okay maybe the shelf will have to come out.. It'll miost likely break it.. Okay well i think ill get them, just need to find somewhere to put that sub and read speakers lol.

Lol, maybe these arent such a good idea.. If i take the shelf out, it all gets slightly wobbly..

u dont have to put the sub woofer right in the middle, that thing will shake ur nuts! (literally)..

the cables are very long on those speakers, so u can put it on the right or left side of ur entire desk. and i wouldnt put it too close to ur computer, that bass is insane!

please post some pics/mini review of it, im in love with those speakers!

Subs are basically non-directional - human hearing is SOooooo bad that we perceive the bass to be coming from the satellite speaker that is emitting the frequencies near what the sub is emitting (we piece the puzzle together -- the basis behind the whole concept of .1 sound systems)

its suggested to put subs on the floor in a (close) corner with an unobstructed sound path to yourself -- they reverberate better

I have had to RMA 2 sets of Z5500s....

And yes the SUB is HOOOOGE....It weighs a load more than the Z2300 one (I've also had a set of these). If you can cope with the space the sub takes up and the set works as expected then all will be just fine (and loud... :yumyum: ).

I am running a set of the Z5450s now and they are nice (wireless rear satellites too ...to keep her indoors happy).

Wow, im tempted to put the subwoofer to the left of my desk and attach the rears to my bed i have been thinking about it over night. Would the sub's magnet affect my printer? and it might not be exactly 2 Feet from my xbox either.. i have a small desk and room lol..

Once again sorry about the poo pic, my phone is on its way out.

And are the Z5450's good? much different in sound quality to the Z5500s? And is the sub 'smaller' and less 'magnetic' lol.

£4-500...worth the spend? Personally ye :p

Anyway, the Logi's are the best out of the two :)

Bah that`s just the bling factor, they don`t even use that expensive ones here and they pay through the nose for stuff :p

Creative Soundworks DTT 5.1 - best investment made ever, out of everything I`ve every bought tech-wize.

Think they cost about £125 at the time, Scan or Dabs did an offer and I got em cheaper.

Of course the series is no longer made, but the spawns of it are about, probably the z-5500 or whatever.

What I`m saying is, a purchase of a solid set of 5.1 is the fundamental purchase u can make, they`ll last for years (had mine probably 10+ now), outlast all the kit u`ll presently plug into them.

And they`re mean-loud!

Creative setup manual book type thing recommended woofers to go down and to the right of where-ever u usually position u`rself. U usually see a pictoral of the ideal setups when u use the likes of sound-card audio testing utils. U know pic of guy in chair and speaker positions.

orite, well i have space down to my right also.

This is how it would be set-up

Let me know what you think.

I`d be tempted to try and get the rears ones under the bunk so they`re as close as behind u as u can, and perhaps face them away from u.

Not ideal, but unless u can run them to the rear of the room, it`d have to do.

There is a method of having the 5 satelites almost in a row on the desk, never liked that myself. Kinda works tho, surround effect isn`t that great - same again tho, u have to try and throw sound which isn`t ideal.

You reckon facing them away from me would help? I was thinking under the bunk, on the wooden planks, its abit hard to circle exactly where llol. So, my mum says i need to save up for insurance.. but im thinking i get these.. then save... i wont be driving for another 6 months.

So these would DEFINATELY be a good purchase? and last me a good couple of years?

And does that first pic look like the sub would be far enough away from the PC to not cause damage

I think I understand, the circles are where u proposed and the arrows were kinda where they were facing. That`d be ~ok~.

Hmm facing in or away... debateable per person, facing away would work best for me I tend to remember. Got mine situated in the corners of the room now.

The bass being where that empty clear plastic bottle is would be fine.

Meh from a personal pov, the 5.1 was the best investment ever.
