ooo im gonna have to do this when i build my new pc. Great guide! Where does the .Net Framework come in? I have XP SP2 so does this apply to me? I cant remember if I have to update the .Net Framework, its been so long since i formatted.

Wait a sec, do you need .Net Framework 2.0 to run Nlite?

Works a treat - using the guide, so a big thank you :D

I now want to make an even better one, so gonna look at the dedicated site for it

Took 15 mins from start to finish

Great Job

I usually use autopatcherXP (nov'06) which is handy as hell so you don't spend 3 hours downloading updates, and you only have to grab about another 100mb of hotfixes from the M$ site after.

I am gonna use my usual method of installing XP Pro SP1, then use the SP2 disc, then run Windows Update to get a full list of the updates needed, then manually download each one (can't wait lol :|), and incorporate all the hotfixes into the new iso :)

If anyone feels this is helpful I can upload a zip with all the ms updates as seperate files from SP2 up until the present time? May take about a week though.

Am about half way through the list of updates to be manually downloaded to be included in an up to date iso (as of today or tomorrow).

Bear in mind that this is only really for Windows XP Pro, and as I have already got the SP2 file installed, it's all (or 98%) the updates from the MS WU site.

Anyone want me up upload the zip with the SP2 installer and all updates from there on? There are no hardware specific drivers added, so it's pretty generic to XP (unsure if the updates for Pro and Home differ tbh).

It also takes into account no removal of WMP, IE, etc as the list was created off a default install plus the SP2 install. Dunno if this will put people off the pack, but at least you will have all the files locally to add or remove which ones you personally will need/not need with your particular options selected with nLite.

Never hurts to offer :)

Hello Gaz, Just so you know I am not being ignorant, am on my daughters PC at the moment and getting grief of the missus for it too, lol. I will get in touch monday when hopefully i will be up and running. Craog hasalready told me the "craic" cheers for that.

Thanks to Browney as well for the PM help out ;)

Yes you need .net 2.0 to run Nlite.

Nobody said anything about not having thumbnail viewing or picture preview when removing IE and the IE core. If i add the IE core what exactly will it add? Will i get those 2 things back? I love the speed im getting off my network right now.

Here's the .zip file with all updates post-SP2 install. Take the above info into account when using them, and check out the code (eg. KB101010) to find out info on particular updates if you are unsureHERE

PLEASE NOTE THIS PACK INCLUDES THE SP2 INSTALLER

Full list of updates included in pack

Am couple are blacked out because of duplication. The big black one's the WGA Notification. IF YOU INSTALL THIS ON A LESS-THAN-LEGAL COPY OF XP, then please note that to cancel the particular update that spams you with non geniune wiondws popups all day, just do NOT accept the EULA. It'll install everything else, BUT that specific update.

.zip file link - 386mb

Should save you guys a bit of hassle hopefully.

*NOTE* When I ran nLite while adding all these, I got errors with 2 or 3 of the files, as they aren't really updates. Just ignore them :)

@ Chudley: Yeah, nps. Check your junk emails in hotmail btw for the reg emails :D That's where they ALWAYS hide.

right ive streamlined my xp, we will see 2morow if its all gone ok (wasnt sure about the raid drivers). Fingers crossed.

well, I installed XP with the custom iso I created, and so far it's working great. No issues as yet, and the install was flawless :) SP2 from the outset and a lot of the updates were installed, saving me downloading them yet again or running AutopatcherXP.

A1 app imo.

Is there a chance some1 can do an OC3D`XMS version of this for Vista, be an interesting experience.

I believe there is a nLiteVista thingy about, but what`s new & what`s the same ??!

Yeah it's called vlite. Its made by the same ppl as nlite so the interface is very similar.

I got my Vista DVD down to just under 1gb with vlite. Stripped out a load of crap - made Vista seem a bit more snappy too.

my copy of Xp seems good, but whenever im installing drivers i get a pop up telling me to put in the XP disc. I click cancel and its goes away and everything is fine. Anyone know how to get rid, its really annoying!

You needed to turn off "file checking" or similiar in the nlite setup. Just google "disable windows file checking"
