Razer's new project

that was my worry, the oil will be a great cooler but what happens once the oil heats up? where does the heat go?

fried chips anyone?

Yes please, sounds very tasty. Remember this is still a concept, they aren't sure about the looks and how it's going to work yet.

Doesn't look safe to me, The way the pieces click in looked kind of flimsy plus mineral oil would be a bitch to clean up if you wanted to swap out the parts inside the casing.

i think the idea is you just change the whole module if you wanted to upgrade a part.

which is great for people who are worried about opening a computer, but for people that like to mod, tweak and overclock.

imagine overclocking a CPU sat in a pool of hot oil.

i understand its a concept, i personally think that oil really isn't the way to go.

Pretty cool looking, but undoubtably very expensive. It's kind of like the phonebloks for PC, if you have heard of it. I just hope it doesn't kill this whole community of PC enthusiasts and overclockers...

So Razer will start stocking all the top shelf CPU's and GPU's on the market and giving them the custom enclosure treatment ?
If so, That will make parts stupidly expensive, It will make Apple look cheap :-/

not sure completely, i'm assuming razer will give intel, amd, nvidia and so on a module or the design and then they put in the hardware and sell it on.

but either way it's gonna carry a price point.

Looks great but still prefer the usual way of buying a component getting your hands on it, sniffing it and plugging it in.

wow, this almost feels like a troll..

Thats hideous, and knowing razer massively inflated price, for sub-quality plastic crap as usual. Anyone thinking mineral oil... not a chance, it eats cable rubber and stuff and creeps up cables etc.. not practical from a mass-produced kind of view no-one will release anything that's based on that kind of cooling.

I know I have my pre-dispositions on Razer, but even our very own Razer fanboy is turning his nose up at this, and I can't say as I blame him...

Apparently they have a "semi working concept". It'll be a good few years away from release ^_^

Should we let Razer know about this? That even the ultimate fanboy (no offense ;)) sees no future in this product...

Surely that means something.

Most of razer's fans are still mopping it up though. Then again with some of them you could put a green sticker on a turd and they'd buy it if it was sold by razer...

I'd rather have the Razer toaster tbh.

Mineral Oil works with electronics and does not destroy them in any way. Could put a whole rig in a fish tank filled with mineral oil and it would last longer compared to air/water. Only problem if it indeed does eat the rubber is the rubber will absorb heat faster and therefore the oil will heat up faster as well(barely though due to its nonconductive nature).

I didn't say anything about electronics, metals or silicon mate. The key thing is it leeches the elasticity out of rubber (cables) and makes it brittle and breaks it over time. It also creeps/walks up surfaces as well, so if you had a cable submerged it would creep up the cable etc.

It's not a solution for everyone, hence why I don't think it's a great idea for Razer in this case.

Surely Razer have this all thought of, I can't see them releasing the product and everyone goes wtf dudes, your f'ing oil has damaged my system, we can't see in the compartments so we don't really know whats going on.
