I know the earliest models are always reference but at least we know that they'll end up with fancy coolers. Unlike certain other companies who still are pumping out reference designs years later.

Idea being there that stores buy (or agree to sell) them and stick a logo on them if they chose.

Like a "Novatech" or "Scan" HD5850. With nice logo.

Mostly they either don't or get more cards than they can stick labels on. Or a store will just source them and sell them as-is.
