Questions about Asus 6950 Direct CU II 2GB Temps

I've read that the card should idle around 40c, and can handle up to 85c under load as per manufacturer specs. Not sure if this is 100% true as it's just a table I found on some forums.

That being said, the card WAS a complete heater in my system.

As per my post in the air cooling section. I made several changes, and more to come. I've already dropped the temps on it a good 10-15c average.

At first when I was running furmark stress test the temps would climb and climb and climb. I would eventually get nervous when it got to 75-80c and shut it off.

After the changes I've made. After 45 minutes in furmark, it never got above 58c. Generally 57c, then would hit 58 every so often, back down to 57, never climing above. Makes me feel a lot more comfortable.

That being said are these safe temps with this card? My PC feels like a fridge again and no longer like a high priced heater, so I feel a lot better.

I plan to make some other changes which should drop the temps even more.

I wanted to do a small over clock on this card, but right now it's stock. I dont want a repeat of my first tests to happen again.

Short answer, put fans how they SHOULD be. It's all located in this thread over in air cooling: http://forum.overclock3d.net/index.php?/topic/36021-how-should-my-fan-set-up-be-pushpull/

My temps seem much better. I would just like to get them lower if at all possible. And want to verify I'm currently in a safe range at 58c under load/heat stress test.

So that way if I can get them even lower I know I'm in a range to put an OC on it.

The cooler on the direct cu ii is supposed to be a fridge, but it's the hottest portion of my system by far.

For reference this is my exact card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...121431&cm_re=asus_6950-_-14-121-431-_-Product

I'm also using msi afterburner with custom fan profiles.
