Q6600 + Abit IP35 PRO MB CPU voltage can't go lower?

Hi guys,

I want to see how low I can get my CPU voltage without it becoming unstable (just as I have done on my laptop).

This will hopefully give me a good base for any future overclocks.

My motherboard (which is a Abit IP35 PRO) can't seem to set the CPU voltage any lower than 1.2875v (in the list) which is the same as when I set it to "Auto".

I've tried disabling EIST and C1E but I still can't go any lower.

Any advice would be great, I'm sure I'm just missing something very basic, it's been a long time since I lasted messed around with the CPU/BIOS stuff from the P4 days :).

Thanks,

Laurence

Edit: It seems that at idle the voltage drops to 1.15v with EIST and C1E enabled. Although anything other than idle it just goes back to normal.

I can't think of anything other than googling around for a version of the bios known to have a wider voltage selection. Don't fancy ur chances on this tbh.

I'd be very weary of trusting readings from the desktop regarding voltages, generally they'll tap into the uguru monitor similar to cpu-z/hwmon does which is wholely inaccurate. These levels will change depending on which version of uguru u install.

Speaking of uguru, my experience of using this is that it holds more changeable ranges than u can see in the bios - particularly fan voltages - but it is probable that other ranges are bigger. Might be worth a try ;) Different versions may give different results.

My guess is that 1.28v is the chips VID, and to prevent instability the board wont let you run lower.

I downloaded uguru and tried that but the CPU voltage range remained the same.

I just flashed to the latest BIOS yesterday and there was no differnece either in voltages.

I prefer to use the BIOS than the software though :).

I just read about people using the same CPU/MB and getting slightly lower voltages, thought it would be worth a try. I guess I'll just have to clock up to make use of it ;).

Got ya, thanks Kempez. I did try but I couldn't see anything to get it lower :).

EDIT:

SILLY ME put this in the wrong section, didn't realise there was more than 1 Overclocking section :@. Sorry!
