PSU for low end system

I m looking to buy a quiet psu. The system does not consume more than 200 watts, so I can get a 300W one.

I heard that a small psu in my case has more heat than a bigger one, because a 300W will have a usage of 66%, while a 450W will have a usage of 44%. Is this true?

I guess today all psu's have "flexible" fans, but is there any with a still fan, moving only when detects heat?

A Corsair RM450 would be what your looking for, pretty much silent with it's zero RPM fan, only spins up under heavy load and it's 80+ Gold rated.

This looks really good. Zero rpm, gold, modular, 5 years... But too expensive. About 100€. Ι can get Seasonic X-400W fanless with 20€ more.
Is there any similar to RM450 cheaper?

If you're on a budget; The Corsair VS350 or VS450 with thermally controlled fan would be an excellent purchase. I use them in pretty much every low-end client build:

http://www.corsair.com/se-fi/vs-seriestm-vs450-450-watt-power-supply

But no still fan.
What about what I said about 300W vs 450W? Does the 450W one run cooler?

they are silent until the unit needs to be cooled down, thats what they are saying. apart from at start up i don't hear my PSU id say go for the corsair rm450 or the next one up to almost guarantee silent cooling.

Of course u dont hear it, before that its the noise of cpu fan, of vga fan, the noise of hard disks etc. But in my system it will be the only noise sourse.
Thats why I d like a psu with a still fan, as rm450. But is there something cheaper?

Question. Suppose fan is still for the first 150W, then starts spinning. If system later goes back to 150W, fan will stop?

If you want a silent PSU then this would be your best bet however it will cost alot.
SuperFlower Golden Silent 430w.

The cheaper fanless psu available in my country is Seasonic X-400 for 121€.
The one u said does not exist.

Forgot to say that the vs450 which Feronix suggested is not 80+ certified.

One more question, all usb2 devices consume always about 2W?

No most devices have power saving features or they simply use less power when not used. Also a mouse may consume 0.7w (My laser mouse does) during usage but when not used it may consume about 0.3w. while a usb speakers may consume 3W. look at product specifications. I think the max output of most motherboards on the 5v usb rail is like 700mAh which is like 3W.

Also the fans that corsair uses in their psus run quiet

i have high power lines which supply 5W max.

And tbh my system is really quiet anyway, i can sit next to it and sleep with it on.

and yeah its 20% so i have 160W where it does not whir up.

So, any usb device we connect (external hard disc, or tv tuner, or anything) always consume no more than 3W.

My main personal pc has a Corsair CX 430M. Because fan was too noisy for my taste, I had to replace it with a really quite one.
But as u know, noise depends on rpm.

Whats 'high power lines'? U r tallking for usb devices?

My main system has 3 fans but u hear nothing. To achieve this u need special case, special fans, special devices. We can discuss this in another thread, lets stay on topic.

20% for which psu?

for my 860i but thats cos i have a higher system draw, and even then when pulling 320W ive not heard the fan very much. but if your after truly silent then look for a passive supply like the one you suggested its by a good brand has the energy requirement and efficiency your after :)

and as for usb i can get 5W max through usb. might be due to it being usb 3.0
