Projekt Suma Kuhl 2013

If I can't save it I will order another, maybe two more from Corsair. Rinse and repeat. This was my first time making curved cuts with the jig saw. I didn't have any spare metal to practice on.:o

That's just the way it goes sometimes, all part of the process

I also found a spot to grab some 30mm socket end cap bolts to mount the fan grills. Much cheaper than buying them online. The screws that are provided with the rads are JUST long enough to attach a 25mm fan with - nothing else. Slapped the black fan grills on the Noctuas. To me it kinda calms the unique color scheme of the fans down a bit.

Yeah I think the black grills do make it look a bit more mellow.

Honestly that looks like it could be salvageable with some careful grinding and sanding

Yeah. Gonna attempt to salvage it today. Luckily this is not a client build!

UPDATE!!!

I planned on using u-channel which is why I went with curved cuts. But, who knows? It's gonna be a while before I can place the final order for Phase 1. Plenty of time to file and sand. We'll see what happens.

not a big fan of u channel mate its usually used to hide botched cuts if im honest. touch up the panel and attach the acrylic behind it will look so much better and you wont have to pack out for the 3mm difference either which also looks botched. Just my findings im new to this game so take this with a pinch of salt.....

Nice save, mate! :)

I would second the motion against U-channel if you can get the cuts to look clean enough. But naturally U-channel is a lot better than having a messy cut that doesn't quite look right (imho).

I'm feelin' the anit-U Channel movement! LOL I was looking at some old pics of my previous build in this case. I really liked the way Corsair "hid" the bolts for the plexi, and non-use of U Channel which gives the panel a smooth flow. I'm going to replicate that. I salvaged the original plexi. Gonna mount that with some double sided tape to avoid attachment bolt exposure. The cuts look a lot rougher than they are due to the contrast of black and freshly exposed steel. Will look a lot better once painted. ;)

The second cut looks much better mate!

Thanks. I am super excited with the results.

I agree. Hopefully I won't need the U Channel.

UPDATE!!

So...

...I couldn't take it anymore. I need more than 2 USB ports! I need SkyNET back!

So...

...I built this to hold me over until BOTH phases are complete:

It's an old computer case I re-purposed into my "new" test bench! Free-ninety-nine! Gotta luv that.

I barely had enough fittings to complete the loop. I have a Crossfire bridge on the way. I might throw both GPUs on here for the duration. I'm doing fine with just one for now. Sitting at 28 degrees Celcius with heavy "Internet Use". I don't know what my ambient temp is at the moment. I'll need to purchase a silver coil or some Mayhems post pay day. I"m thinking about white colored coolant for now.

And may I add, it's soooo quiet compared to before. These Noctuas are whispering through the rads.

Stay tuned...

That's the nice thing about Caselabs: You already have a test bench.

EDIT: I see you have indeed added "480 radiator" to the tags, haha

Just caught back up with the thread, that edit on the side panel cut looks LOADS better than it did before, good job! My buddy just went through something like your "separation anxiety" with his build. Just ordered parts for his new rig... gets everything EXCEPT the chassis to put it in and turn it on x-P. He actually took personal time off from work so I could come over beforehand to help him piece everything together, so I know this feel.

This is true sir. I read about that on their website. If I ever PURCHASE another case it will def be a Caselabs joint.

Man, the town of Whoville rejoiced when I cleaned the cut up!

Not so much separation anxiety as it was a need for more USB ports. I normally use about 8, so 2 wasn't cuttin' it. However, once I was back to computing at "normal speed", I realized I missed more than just the ports. So, you're probably right after all. :D

Here is another shot of my "Free Bench" as it will be know from now on:

Tryin' to keep the thread fresh.

Should have another update by Sunday, and a few [literally] parts should be here by Wednesday.

Stay tuned...
