project "stark contrast" spring 2011

Shame its such a small case (IMO) never the less looks great the white and black
cool.gif

i am going black yellow with a HAF922, modding it as i type
smile.gif

It's an ITX board, how big a case do you think it needs?
smile.gif

The white and black does look awesome and you don't see many people doing it. Shame there is no room to mount the rad internally, Still looks good though
smile.gif

I've seen it done with this case by removing the hdd rack and shaving the bottom of the 5.25" rack. Thing is then, its where do you mount the hdd? Think on those builds they used 2.5" hdd's and used the good old "sticky back plastic" route just to tack them to the back of something.

There's always something about an external rad that I tend to like though.

Edit: That's not a rad at all is it. Sorry, I don't tend to read the descriptions much :$ But neither did SieB!!!

"left field"??? do aussies play baseball???
unsure.gif
yup the cooler on the mobo is actually for a combo nb/sb which in this board runs ridiculously hot... ill post a cppl close-ups... the closest block i could find for it was an enzo 81 mosfett wb (which i still had to mod to fit)

and there is no rad in that external box...thats an experamental h72 pull pull setup
blink.gif

Have to say Id have binned of the corsair stuff and just gone with one decent 240 on the back on a decent mount. Thats the only thing making this look too messy now.

Just needed some rad mounts to mount it to the case (not the teeny fan) and then just have one lot of tubes going in. You can even get rads with the pumps built in now to have even less inside.

God I hate being so picky

I was really impressed until the water went in

ooooohhh...today is gonna be glorious!!!!! got a big brown truck coming later with 2 monitors,,,a mushkin 120 sdd,,,windows7 ult.,,,and some video games....cant wait....but till then i got my window pics for you to mull over... its gonna be a 2 layer window(double pane if you will) for effect....you'll see---

i posted this once but maybe you remember the decal i had made....

41311148.jpg

going in the pane behind that will be this one... a tattoo parlor by the name of pins and needles in biddeford maine drew up the fire for me as i have,,,,well if you were to give numerical value to my latent drawing ability,,,it would be somewhere in the vicinity of negative infinity!!! so thanks to them i have this

IMG_0784.jpg

and through the magic know as algebra we now know that this+that=f'n sweet!!!

IMG_0795.jpg

IMG_0791.jpg

you cant see through it yet because both panes still have the vinal backing on 'em

IMG_0796.jpg

now to go cut the panel whilst i wait....

sorry i dissapeared for a bit...dropped my camera in a toilet....fitting end for a piece of $hit cannon tho......as soon as i can get you guys a finished photo i will....in the meantime mabey you can give a noob some advice....i cant seem to get my cpu over 40c and im afraid im just doin it wrong....ive tried prime95,,,the stability tester in amd overdrive and multiple consecutive runs with burnintest!!! not to mention a mild overclock @3850mhz....and im such a noob i dont even know how to take a propper screenshot??? but hear is what i can give you...

now just as a lil review ill recap my cooling system.... what i have is a modded h70,,,which starts with a decent lapping job on the pump/waterblock,,,added in a mosfet cooler over my nb/sb chipset (they're right next to eachother on this board) into the loop,,,added a micro resivoir into the loop... and re plumbed with new tubing... then things get real funky.... i used a 240 rad shroud on the back of the case to house 2 120mm zalman shark fin fans (both pulling) and controlled by a lamtron fan control 30% untill 45c than rams up to 75% /100% after 75...then for shits and giggles i through a cooler master excalibur 120mm fan as a "push fan" controlled through bios via pwm

IMG_0766.jpg

hear is the loop minus the coolermaster excalibur

IMG_0765.jpg

and screen shot after my forth run of burnin...i start it back up as fast as i can after each 15min run

and idle....ambient temp 21c

am i doin this wrong or is this setup just working well....

thanx for any help

What were you doing with a camera in the WC?... on second thought, I don't want to know.
rolleyes.gif

If I'm not mistaken, most people would happy to not get their chip hot. I'm not familiar with your kit, but not so many volts?... more base clock?... I don't know really, I just keep pushing, taking down notes. push some more until I can't boot then I back it off.

well it all started with this girl i met a cppl months back...... nah ur right you dont wanna know!!! i think my main problem is just that ive been comparing my temps to air cooler reviews....apples and oranges iguess

Yeah... you're on AMD, so your temperature ceiling is around 60°C for it to be comfortably at the limit. Most heatsink reviews are using Intel CPUs, which threshold at 90°C; OC3D ♥ their hot 1366 chips.

OK sorry i got lazy.....funny how a build slows down once a rig is functional huh??? anywho it's now sittin somewhere around 95% finished....but i think it'll stay like this for a bit until i can afford some different parts to clean it up a bit....all in all i think the corsair mod while very hard to argue with its results functionality wise....aesthetically it's quite busy!!! ill be honest.....there is shit goin every frik'n where isnt there??? but not being able to hit 40*c with prime95 or burn in tester and 18*c delta temps kinda speak for themselves (its kinda like the ugly girl that gives good.....WOW ill stop there!!!)

the see-through amd black vision decal didnt look as good as i was hoping so ive ditched it for the time being and will just use the flames i had behind it...and yes i did f it up and am making another....

all parts worked great and received nothing that ill need to rma

ok some final pics.....sorry im no pro when it comes to photos

That looks great
smile.gif

Definietly one to be proud of anyway, the black and white makes me think of the Storm Troopers from Star Wars for some reason.

Have you worked out the temps without the prolapsed fan shroud?

I love the colour discipline (ignoring that blue zip tie) and contrast, but that piggyback... hmm....

i did give it a shot and it was fine at idle (35) but the load temps were downright embarassing (wont even tell'ya).....the nb/sb in the mix make the added airflow a necessity i think.....she does have quite the fat ass tho dont she!!?!!??

wwwaaaaaayyyyyy better than it looks at least......delta average is about 24 degrees celcius @ 4.25GHz....oh and thats at 60% fan speed....but even with all five fans at 100% it's still quieter than my asus dcii 6970@ 70%+......not bad when you consider that it's not only cooling the processor,,, but both the north bridge and south bridge (which are retardedly hot on the asus m4a88t-i/)

still all that being said.... id still like to hunt down harry potter,,, kick his ass,,, steal his "cloak of invisability",,, cut a piece out,,, and put it over it!!!

just thought id show you where this one ended up......the experimental cooler turned itself into a black ice gtx 80mm (55mmthick) rad.... it still has the pII 975 cpu and both the nb/sb in the loop....that lil bastard's good for 30c idle and 55 loaded @ 4220mhz......not to shabby for a lil 80mil rad!!!!.....

i also switched up the color scheme when i added an asus gtx460 dc I Top (blue version) ......

this rig ended up going to a kid who's father told him computers were useless,,, would do his education no good,,, and would not need to know how to use one for a job later on in life!!!!

imagine that......

so i gave him a free rig!!!!!

anywho....here is its final tranformation........stark contrast 1.2

first and foremost....this mod is 100 all credit due to TTL.....had i not started watching his reviews i would have never put the blue-ray behind the block-off plate like that......under the fan controller resides a blu-ray/dvd burner optical drive.....but it's perfectly hidden!!! thanx TTL

ok....got an update

so i decided to up the wc performance of this mini-itx beast a lil bit and took out the corsair pump/cpu block.

instead i added in a Raystorm cpu block,,, a D5 pump w/an alphacool oc cool top,,, and a Black Ice GT Stealth 120 XFlow w/ push pull fans on the bottom..

what you cant see around back is the cape coral heat exchanger that takes the loop from the black ice gt 80mm rad to the bottom 120mm rad..

i also shrunk the exhaust fan pushing through that 80mm rad down to a 92mm matching zalman shark fin fan

now i know i could have got a 240 rad in front of the intake fans... but im just not a fan of pre-heating my fresh air intake

i thought i had more to share but some of my pics and the vid i shot were corruped

ill post a few more when i go back to tidy it up a lil
