Project Rexy (Car content - 56k warning)

Went back out a few days later and this was the end result of a few hours work.

Started the day with a check of the rotors to see if all the seals we installed were still correct.

Next up was a quick rinse of the main engine parts to get any last bit of dust or dirt that may have gotten on since our last day.

Next was to sort out a few of the seals.

After that we started on the engine assembly

There was lots of puns going around that day.

All bolted up and torqued to mazda spec. We checked if the rotors moved freely and they did. Then we checked the horizontal movement of the shaft to see how much play was there and everything was within tolerances.

Last thing we did was install the oil pump assembly, oil pressure reg, oil pick up. would have had the sump on too but ran out of sealant.

And a quick video or two.

The sound is poor in both vids because it was a phone taking them.

I got the car back on the road almost 10 months after the engine went pop. A few things went against me. Firstly the weather meant travelling to Fiachras work shop was dangerous. Secondly people sending me bad parts that I could not use meant time wasted waiting on them. Thirdly an issue related to my insurance but that is another story for another day. Lets just say they were being a pain so I switched companies.

Shortly after getting it home I tackled the paint with some compound.

I did clean the paste off from between the roof and boot lid after i saw it in this pic.

Car still needs a respray but between buying a new pc and no work for the summer it may be some time.

I had to get the car ready for its nct much like the english mot. It passed after a retest because the headlight alignment was off because I had no beam setter but off to a local garage and job was a good one.

The car for the last few months has been driven as often as I can afford. With the price of fuel skyrocketing the last few months means I get to drive it less and less. The engine has enough miles on it now that I can go for mapping but two things are stopping me. Firstly I am broke after buying my new pc which I saw as a more worth while expenditure and secondly I want to do it myself so buying the equipment is next and joining the american mapping group to get access to the online tech articles. I am hoping after the summer I will have the equipment and access so I can learn and tweak some base maps to get my car running better. I am more than likely going to save over the winter for next summer to get the respray done, I know it is a long way away but respraying a car in the winter is not a good idea because the bad weather wont be good for it. So I may have another 12 months before the car looks good again.

Lots of work left on the car but it is an on going project, one that I may never complete but it is a goal in my life and it has been something that has helped me in many ways in my personal life and health. I have had this car now nearly 5 and a half years and slowly I am getting to my goal even if things sometimes kick me back to square one.

Anyways guys thanks for looking and I hope you found this interesting. All comments welcome both good and bad as long as constructive.

Oh and sorry about the spam, I did not know the exact number of allowed images per post so went for around 5-6.

Nice car! God I love the 3rd gen sevens. And aren't you a lucky SOB not having to do emissions. My last rx7 I had to have a seprate exhaust system that was only put on for the emissions tests =/

Do you still plan to go single turbo once you get the thing up and running? or are you just going to enjoy a running car for a while first?

Running the car probably for the next 12 months as is and learn to map. Get it resprayed and maybe a few minor little details here and there. After that who knows but I would like to go down one of two roads all depends on my money situation and depends on how long I keep the car for. Most likely I will go down the aftermarket twins route and try to get them boosting in the region of 1-1.2 bar and get around 500hp. The other route is rip the engine out and 20b conversion it but run it as an na with peripheral ports. Aiming for around 400hp like that but with one amazing sound. As I said these are more dreams atm though the plan is learn to map and map it then respray it after that I will have to wait an see what happens in life. If I win the lotto I will be going 26b pp and try and aim for 10k rpm with titanium rotors but that is just a dream which will probably never happen but we have to have dreams.

not a fan of RX7 but this one looks good very good post I like the way ya did it. Enjoy your expensive toy mate.

Very interesting read.

It sounded like a stressful time but you've got some determination lol.
