Project: Red Racer

Hey there,

Recently I finished building my new rig the Red Racer (name clarification later).

Let's start with the parts I've chosen:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4670
  • MB: Gigabyte Z87-D3HP
  • RAM: G.Skill Ares 8GB 1866 CL9-10-9-28
  • Graphics: Gigabyte GTX 770 Windforce 3X OC
  • PSU: Cooler Master G600 600W
  • SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 120GB
  • Case: Aerocool Mechatron black
  • Side Fan: Aerocool Lightning Red 200mm fan
  • Top Fan: Bitfenix Spectre black 200mm fan

After a long wait of 1 week, every part has arrived. Here is me unboxing them:

Freshly cleaned room to avoid as much dust as possible :)

Alright let's get going! First step: barebone test to discover any faulty parts.

Stock CPU cooler for now. Might buy an aftermarket one some time in the near future.

I had a big fat grin on my face when I unboxed this beauty :D

I just love how this case looks :D

*eyegasm* You might notice why I called it the Red "Racer". I think the front kinda looks like a Porsche or Ferrari.

Dat feel.

Stripped down case with included 200mm fan (which I think is freaking awesome of Aerocool to include such a big fan)

Aerocool put 3 motherboard standoffs with it and I thought I didn't have enough. So I ventured out to buy some, but my local hardware store didn't have any and it was too late to go to my local computer shop.

I asked a friend if he had any old pc I can get some standoffs from. Quite frankly, he had 2!

At this point my freshly cleaned room has become a mess again

The first pc just had some cheap plastic clips for standoffs and the second one had too long standoffs...

Quite frustrated I went to sleep. On the next morning I went to my local computer shop and bought some standoffs for a buck.

After I put all in and tried to fit the motherboard I realized that I didn't need any standoffs. Great!! Stress for nothing and time and fuel wasted...

Anyways, after my historic discovery I mounted the motherboard into the case.

Quite an upgrade I'd say!

I might buy a fan controller since I'm not quite happy how the motherboard handles the fans. I'm looking at the Bitfenix Recon.

If you want a higher res pic of something just ask. I cropped everything down to 720p to save bandwith.

I hope you like it :)

Pp

why is the red racer filled with blue parts?
other than that, nice and clean, not a huge fan of the case but oh well, that's personal preference. good job.

why is the red racer filled with blue parts?

Well I've picked the parts way before I discovered the case. There is a white-blue version of the case, but I didn't like it as much as the black-red one. And since you can't really see the blue from the outside it isn't that much of a deal. I actually kinda like it to have black-red on the outside and black-blue on the inside.
